Chef Reuben Riffel is expanding his restaurant portfolio to five, with a fourth Reuben’s opening in Johannesburg at The Capital Moloko boutique hotel.  It is due to open on 1 August.

The first Reuben’s restaurant opened in 2004, in Franschhoek, and moved to a new location in Franschhoek last year. Reuben’s restaurants are also located in the One&Only in Cape Town, and in Paternoster. The restaurant wirh the same name has closed in Robertson. In Franschhoek Chef Reuben also owns Racine at Chamonix wine estate.

Currently Chef Reuben is a partner in the Franschhoek Beer Co, but the restaurant at the brewery is not Reuben’s branded. He also has a link to a new breakfast and lunch restaurant at Val de Vie, he told me when we messaged about the new restaurant news. He has no further restaurants planned, he wrote.

Chef Kyle Blows is to be the Executive Chef, formerly having worked at Bistro Sixteen82 at Steenberg, and at Mont Rochelle in Franschhoek. The menu at the new restaurant will have a ‘worldly theme with strong Asian and Cape Malay influences that showcases the eclectic and contemporary restaurant, whilst being true to its South African roots’.
