SwitchBitch Book 3 completes the Transformation Trilogy, Solo Travelling and Dancing the theme!

I have just completed writing my third SwitchBitch Book in the Transformation Trilogy, this one entitled ‘SwitchBitch: My Journey of Transformation in Travelling Solo, step by step’.

This year was dominated by a trip of a lifetime. I had to summarise for myself and my Facebook friends what this trip had been all about, and I wrote a tongue-in-cheek story, about my journey through eight countries, walking and dancing 1,2 million steps and just under 1000 km in three months: Continue reading →

Lucky number 7 for Cape Town, voted Best City in the world seven times in a row, voted by Telegraph readers in the UK!

For seven years running Cape Town has been voted the Best City in the world, by 40000 readers of the UK Telegraph

A quote from the publication shares the following about our special city, from a tourist perspective: ‘We”ll put up with the occasional discomfort for the sheer joy of waking up with a real natural beauty’. The City is also praised for its iconic Table Mountain, ‘and it is precisely this unique geography, towering mountains that drop, at times perpendicularly, into the vast blue, that is so seductive’. Its proximity to Franschhoek wine region is also highlighted.

London or any other British City does not feature in the Top 20 Telegraph List, showing that UK tourists are prepared to travel far from their country to enjoy their holidays.

I am happy to see Havana and Buenos Aires on the Top 20 List too, two cities which I visited just four months ago.

The Top 20 List of the Best Cities in the World is the following:

  1. Cape Town
  2. Vancouver
  3. Kyoto
  4. Sydney
  5. St Petersburg
  6. Singapore
  7. Venice
  8. Luang Prabang
  9. Seville
  10. New Orleans
  11. Havana
  12. New York
  13. Bagen
  14. Florence
  15. Istanbul
  16. Rome
  17. Dubrovnik
  18. Tokyo
  19. Krakow

Returning home to Cape Town after three months on the (European and South American) road as a Solo traveler !

My post below comes from Facebook, a post I wrote in the last few days of my journey through eight countries, walking and dancing 1,2 million steps and just under 1000 km in three months. It was a tongue in cheek story about my journey, motivated in writing my third SwitchBitch Book, but also to share with my Blog readers the World’s 50 Best Restaurants I ate at in Lima, Buenos Aires, Santiago in Chile, Rio de Janeiro, and a Michelin star restaurant in Lisbon, with other great and not so great restaurants, and the interesting Mendoza wine region in Argentina, synonymous with Malbec and the largest in the country. I will be posting stories as soon as I have settled in again and got over the jet lag. Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: Don Julio Parrilla in Buenos Aires earns its 34th World Best Restaurant ranking with exceptional service!

Whilst visiting Buenos Aires, I was very fortunate to be able to reserve a table each at Tegui (86th Best) and at Don Julio Parrilla (34th Best) on the World’s 50 Best Restaurant List. The two Argentinian restaurants swopped rankings this year, Don Julio having previously played second fiddle to Tegui, and the steak specialist restaurant jumped an incredible twenty one places to make it into the World’s 50 Best List, whilst Tegui dropped 31 places. My Tegui Review is on my Blog, and explains why the restaurant lost its standing this year. Continue reading →

Sweet Service Award goes to the Alvear Palace Hotel; Sour Service Award goes to Uber Buenos Aires!

The Sweet Service Award goes to the Alvear Palace Hotel, and its Food & Beverage Manager Alfredo Daniel Rodriguez, for its Service recovery. I shared an unsatisfactory experience in the Bar of the Hotel earlier this week with the Hotel Receptionist, who passed on my card to Alfredo. Alfredo emailed me, and then called me, apologised, and invited me for a make-good, to experience their true five star service. And that it was, being shown a behind the scenes set up for a Barmitzvah and then offered the Bar Menu, and invited to order what I wanted. I had a first Jameson in Buenos Aires, and ordered a mushroom quiche with a salad. All sorts of extra treats accompanied this order. Gracias Alfredo and the Alvear. Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: Tegui Restaurant in Buenos Aires (86th Best in World) food does not match its interior design, oversalted, masculine in its presentation!

On Saturday evening I ate dinner at Tegui Restaurant in Palermo, Buenos Aires, getting a reservation easily at this the 86th Best Restaurant in the World. While it has an attractive interior design, its food presentation does not match this look, and while suggesting that it is Proudly Argentinian, it seemed a little too close to what Peruvian 6th Best Restaurant Central is serving! The Chef sadly oversalts his food.  Continue reading →

Sweet Service Award goes to Central Restaurante in Lima; Sour Service Award goes to Uber Buenos Aires!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Central Restaurante in Lima, Peru, and its hostess Chloe, for allocating a table to me for a lunch 24 hours later, when I arrived to eat at Central sister restaurant Kjolle last week. I had not been able to book a table at Central, sixth Best Restaurant on the World’s 50 Best restaurant list, 30 days in advance of my Lima dates via their online reservation system.
