Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 24 of Level 1, 14 October 2020.

Wednesday 14 October 2020, Day 24 of Level 1, Day 202 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for our warmest day to date, at 24C; for a relaxed entertaining day of socializing, tea drinking, and eating; for being able to work out how to post on Instagram, it having been changed today without any notification to users 😱; for a 90 minute goosebump meeting over tea and Zabaglione at Villa 47 with Chef Matt Schreuder of Homespun, what a creative food magician he is; for meeting school mates Elaine Wegelin and Jenny Stephens at Utopia (yes, I love this place, for its interior decor, its food, the views, and being far from the maddening crowd); for two walks through Camps Bay today, not as littered as usual; for two plays on the Discovery Gameboard; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 18 of Level 4, 18 May 2020.

Monday 18 May 2020, Day 18 of Level 4 after 35 days at Level 5 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another beautiful day, not so warm at only 20C, but sunny; for another excellent Exercise Time this morning, walking up to Clifton 3rd Beach, there being very few Exercisers; for having our domestic garbage removed today, other areas like Sea Point linked to the Woodstock Depot not so lucky, it being closed for the next three days due to Virus infections there; for chatting to Giles Blanc, owner of The 41 restaurant, and then regular coffee drinkers Haakon and Thomas Bauerkämper, exchanging experiences about ordering Camps Bay Restaurant Food delivered to home; for a very relaxed afternoon; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 10 of Level 4, 10 May 2020.

Sunday 10 May 2020, Mother’s Day, Day 10 of Level 4, after 35 days at Level 5 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another beautiful sunny day after a very foggy start; that I could still go out to exercise despite the fog, choosing to walk in the opposite direction to normal, as far as the Food Truck parking spot, and then up and down the lanes in Bakoven, deserted, making it very pleasant to walk here, and doing 45 minutes of Cardio (200 Discovery points ❤️); for a Mother’s Day message from my Alex at 4h00 this morning already; for the delivery of a Mother’s Day treat from Food by Kai, including delectable eclairs and more, delivered to my door, being a member of the Restaurant Food Delivery Group (pic below) 👏; for lovely phone calls with Shaun Terry, Stuart Bailey, and from German swallow Gabi Vocke; for enjoying my playlist on a Sunday, not liking the DJ who spends most of the day on a Sunday in the Kfm studio; for hearing from Marlene Du Plessis-Zoetl and that she is finally home again; for a lovely sun snooze on the terrace; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Resting in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil: visiting tourist highlights and best restaurants!

There is only one way to get back to South Africa from South America, and that is from São Paulo in Brazil. I decided to grant myself a little rest break in Rio de Janeiro, while I was in the country, rather than visit São Paulo, at the end of a three-month trip in Cuba and in South America. I visited the top tourist attractions and restaurants in this city. Continue reading →

SwitchBitch Book 3 completes the Transformation Trilogy, Solo Travelling and Dancing the theme!

I have just completed writing my third SwitchBitch Book in the Transformation Trilogy, this one entitled ‘SwitchBitch: My Journey of Transformation in Travelling Solo, step by step’.

This year was dominated by a trip of a lifetime. I had to summarise for myself and my Facebook friends what this trip had been all about, and I wrote a tongue-in-cheek story, about my journey through eight countries, walking and dancing 1,2 million steps and just under 1000 km in three months: Continue reading →

Returning home to Cape Town after three months on the (European and South American) road as a Solo traveler !

My post below comes from Facebook, a post I wrote in the last few days of my journey through eight countries, walking and dancing 1,2 million steps and just under 1000 km in three months. It was a tongue in cheek story about my journey, motivated in writing my third SwitchBitch Book, but also to share with my Blog readers the World’s 50 Best Restaurants I ate at in Lima, Buenos Aires, Santiago in Chile, Rio de Janeiro, and a Michelin star restaurant in Lisbon, with other great and not so great restaurants, and the interesting Mendoza wine region in Argentina, synonymous with Malbec and the largest in the country. I will be posting stories as soon as I have settled in again and got over the jet lag. Continue reading →

Hotel Review: Parador ‘Hostal dos Reis Católicos’ in Santiago de Compostela oldest hotel in the world

As a final treat to end off my Portuguese Coastal Camino walk last week, I booked the last night of my stay in Santiago de Compostela at the Parador ‘Hostal dos Reis Católicos’, a five-star luxury hotel located adjacent to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, and closely linked in history to the pilgrimages made to the city, to pay respect to Saint James, whose remains are in a silver casket in the Cathedral. Parador Hotel Pilgrim Lunch, a tradition dating back to 1499, a highlight of my Camino, but not for the food or service!

On Saturday I had the amazing fortune to enjoy a Pilgrim Lunch at Restaurante Enxebre, an informal restaurant which is part of the five star Parador Hotel in Santiago de Compostela, with seven other Camino pilgrims. To experience a Pilgrim meal is almost as much of a high as walking the Camino, and making it all the way to Santiago de Compostela, this tradition dating back to 1499. Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: Café Casino in Santiago de Compostela steeped in Camino history!

Last year my favorite restaurant/bar to visit in Santiago de Compostela was Café Casino, a meeting place of society for more than a century. A return visit, to celebrate the completion of my Camino, was a massive disappointment. Continue reading →

WhaleTales Blog and SwitchBitch Book 3 go on a new exciting adventure, step by step!

Today is the first day of a three-month adventure on three continents, and including five countries. Not only is it a personal journey, but it also completes my SwitchBitch Book 3 which I stated writing two months ago, and gives me the opportunity to visit and review restaurants I eat at on my Blog.
