The Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town, and its Trainee Cashier Jarred Knipe, for the speedy service in renewing the licence for my car at the Civic Centre. I came armed with a copy of my ID and once again the proof of my residence, which I had organised especially elsewhere prior to my visit to the Motor Vehicle Registration Officer. One is allocated a number on arrival, after enquiring why one is visiting. My number was about eleven numbers after the counters servicing clients. Many clients did not respond to the numbers. Before my number came up, a roving admin staff member asked me what I had come for and directed me to the Cash Office immediately. Jarred is a relatively new staff member, still on training! He completed the paperwork and payment within five minutes, it having taken me a total of ten minutes to renew the registration of the car, something that has taken an hour at least in the past! I had to pinch myself that I was not dreaming. And to add to the service delight, Service Manager Hennie Kriel, replaced the licence disc for me when I popped in at Audi Cape Town for assistance with something completely unrelated! On 2 January of this year I adopted a stream near the Camps Bay Tidal Pool, having seen it clogged up with plastic and other rubbish left by picnickers on the infamous New Year’s Day. Since then I visit the stream every day, to clean it up, removing all the rubbish from it. A week ago Straatwerk workers assisted me in removing all the water weeds that had grown in the stream, and the rubbish that was trapped underneath the plants, returning the stream into its beautiful former self, an asset for Camps Bay and other Capetonians. The Sweet Service Award goes to PPA Security Services, for their excellent work in patrolling the Camps Bay Promenade, in the past two weeks since commencing their work, in busting drug dealers, getting a car thief, recovering a hijacked vehicle, etc. Yesterday I needed assistance after being assaulted by a vendor couple on Victoria Road in Camps Bay, and Scott ran to the vendor tarpaulin, while Strydom drove me to the Camps Bay police station, so that I could lay a charge of assault, on their recommendation. The Sweet Service Award goes to Sorbet Camps Bay, the Branch to which I switched earlier this week, having been with the Sea Point Mall Branch for the past two years. I now live in Camps Bay, but out of habit I kept going back to the Sea Pont Branch. Walking past the Camps Bay Branch, which is at the back of The Promenade Centre, and to which I can walk, I gave it a try earlier this week, and returned two days later, loving the peacefulness and professionalism of the staff in doing a leg wax and mini pedicure. I was informed that I had R250 in points, which was deducted from my total due, leaving a small amount to pay. They do a birthday 50% discount too, already diarised for next month. Yesterday afternoon at 16h00 the eagerly awaited Tiger’s Milk Kitchen/Bar Camps Bay opened its doors, blowing some fresh wind into the Camps Bay beachfront, the first opening in the suburb of a new restaurant since Maison J, but hardly comparable in size and offering. It was described by Tiger’s Milk Brand Manager Matthew Howell as a ‘bi-polar’ mix of the upmarket decor of the Kloof Street Branch, and the more rustic Muizenberg and Long Street Tiger’s Milk branches. The Sweet Service Award goes to Woolworths in the Waterfront, and its Manager Warren Sitzer. I received poor service in looking to buy wine glasses in the Homeware department, so poor that I went to buy some at @Home instead. At Country Road inside the Woolworths store I wanted to pay for a top, but there was no staff member to be seen. I wanted to relate both service issues to a manager, and Warren listened, apologised with charm, and brought me some roses. He said he remembered my son and I shopping at the Paarl Mall branch more than ten years ago, when we lived in Franschhoek. He also shared the amazing developments lying ahead for this Waterfront branch. He invited me to chat to him at any time that I experience any problems at this branch. Wow!

November is an exciting month, with new restaurant openings by Chef Luke Dale-Roberts (The Commissary), by Chef Peter Tempelhoff (FYN), and the very eagerly awaited restaurant Gåte by Chef Rikku O’Donnchü at Quoin Rock in Stellenbosch. There is a marked slow down in new restaurant openings, other than by new restaurant group Cowboys & Cooks.

#. Michael Townsend, founder of the Harbour House Group but no longer with the Group, is to open The Grill Room in Sunset Beach. He has also bought Sevruga in the Waterfront. A third restaurant, in Sea Point, will open in September 2019.
# The new Cowboys & Cooks restaurant group is to open a Cowboys and Cooks restaurant in Stellenbosch; The Backyard BBQ in various locations; Cabron Tex Mex restaurants in Durbanville and Stellenbosch, alongside the Bree Street Branch; and Viva Tex Mex in Kenilworth. It has taken over Slug & Lettuce, a Gastropub franchise with six branches, for which a new look and menu will be developed, starting off in Durbanville. The group has also just bought a 50% share in Primi Piatti, with 18 outlets.
# Maison J Café et Croissant, a joint venture between renowned Jason Bakery baker Jason Lillie and his sister Brigitte, as well as Vida e Caffé founders David Chait and Rui Esteves, has opened alongside the Pick ‘n Pay in Camps Bay, in a joint venture with the retailer. If this branch works well, it is set to roll out in other Pick ‘n Pay stores, the Waterfront likely to be the next branch to open.
# Between Us has opened on Bree Street, as a restaurant and bar, belonging to the twin sisters who originally opened Skinny Legs & All.
#. The Deli Coffee Co is the new rebranded name of four Melissa’s branches: V&A Waterfront, Kloof Street, Somerset West, and Hermanus, owned by Surine van Niekerk. Prices are set to drop, she says. The Waterfront branch has opened in the former Dalliance and White Rabbit space.
