Sweet Service Award goes to City of Cape Town; Sour Service Award goes to Checkers Sea Point!

The Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town, for its Cleansing team coming specially prepared last Sunday to clean up the glass pieces from a Camps Bay Drive balcony which had landed on the opposite Victoria Road pavement in Camps Bay due to a gale-force South-Easter. They brought a canvas sheet and placed the glass on it, and then lifted the glass into their truck, as it was a danger to have the glass lying there over a busy good weather weekend. Coming on a Sunday morning and so quickly after the incident happened deserves a special applause, made possible via Councillor Nicola Jowell. Continue reading →

Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town; Sour Service Award goes to the SA Government!

The Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town, and its Water Department, which called me at 21h00 on the same day on which I saw a water leak on Victoria Road in Camps Bay and reported it to Councillor Nicola Jowell. The call was to determine the exact location of the leak. Two days later I walked past the spot again, and was happy to see that the leak had been fixed. Continue reading →

Camps Bay celebrates International Coastal Clean Up Day with a Beach Clean Up in Cape Town, in royal company!

I heard about International Coastal Clean Up Day on Saturday 19 September, and spontaneously decided to organise a Beach Clean Up in Camps Bay, the Cape Town suburb in which I live and in which I have been picking up litter for the past eighteen months, under the CAMPS BAY CLEAN name. While the turnout was lower than I had hoped for, the twenty volunteer locals managed to fill 25 bags with litter, between Glen Beach and the Tidal Pool in Camps Bay. Continue reading →
