Thursday 17 September 2020, Day 31 of Level 2, Day 175 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for sun, sun, sun, after a misty morning, with a slight chill in the 17C day; for a late sleep in, having written today’s Blogpost last night; for a walk in Camps Bay, making a leg waxing appointment for tomorrow, shopping at Woolies, and collecting discount vouchers from Tindlovu; for learning more about the cost of electricity in our apartment block, after the Power Audit was done; for having the patience in filling in more forms to be registered with CATHSSETA as a Tourist Guide, a challenging career when it comes to all the governmental paperwork prescriptions; for dropping off the forms at the lecturer’s house in Rondebosch, combining it with a number of other stops in the city, including buying my first alcohol in almost six months of Lockdown, having run out of Jameson; for more fantastic service from PnP Clothing in The Point in Sea Point; for a slice of carrot cake and tea and company from the lovely staff member at Bokeh Creative Space, looking forward to dancing there soon Adrian Lazarus; for popping in at Oxalis Eatery to drop off a bottle of ADHARA extra virgin olive oil, with four female owners of the restaurant, which opened in late August; for a half an hour stop at Pilcrow & Cleaver, having a glass of Valley Pinot Noir and a Scallop Ceviche with Orange segments, pine nuts and sultanas, oh wow…; for ending off the day with a first visit to the home of Stuart Bailey, loving my Jameson 🥃; for a Discovery Insure Fuel Cashback; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town; Sour Service Award goes to Sandak-Lewin!

The Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town, for its spare electricity, which has lessened the Loadshedding outages for Cape Town, taking us down one Stage, often leading to no outages in Stages 1 and 2, particularly beneficial when the Loadshedding is scheduled for the evening. On a day in the past week the Loadshedding in our area was meant to last until 22h30, but the power was switched back on at 21h00. Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another beautiful day, at 22C, summer is almost here, but not for long; for a happy sunshine spirit after all the grey rain days; for a good admin and writing morning; for a call to Verishnee Mayer; for a sunny walk through Camps Bay, popping in at Firefly Café, checking if they got their tea ordered from Dilmah, at Tindlovu to check a menu detail with its GM Chris Papayannes, and at Ivor Ramsay at Law Enforcement to assist a local resident deal with a tented settlement going up opposite her house; for a visit from Ines, who cycled all the way from Hout Bay to buy SwitchBitch Book 1, having connected with each other via Facebook, she being very interested in local restaurants too; for loving my new black shorts I bought at Pick n Pay Clothing, fitting perfectly and comfortably, not having been able to try them on in the shop, so much so that I’m going to buy another pair 💙; for a sunset walk through Bakoven; for meeting a township gardener in town to buy two lemon trees, going into pots; for receiving a copy of Sommelier and winemaker Jean Vincent Ridon’s new book ‘Passion for Pairing’, personally hand delivered, for reviewing; for no Loadshedding for us today;  and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for the arrival of Spring, finally, what a beauty of a day at 21C 🌞; for a glorious day; for meeting Johnny Nortje and walking to Camps Bay, dropping off a sample pack of Dilmah Teas at Firefly Café, to try out and to use until they get their tea order delivered; for a fabulous lunch with Johnny at Tindlovu Restaurant in the Camps Bay Promenade, meeting up with Chef Chris Papayannes (whom I’d last seen at the Newton Johnson Restaurant about 6 years ago), and now Group GM of the 10 Tindlovu restaurants around the country; for a drive with Johnny to Blouberg, walking along the Beachfront; for a second Camps Bay walk, walking with Lisa Hayden whom I bumped into when I was actually heading for Bakoven; for the City of Cape Town having spare electricity, which prevented us from being Loadshed at 18h00, coming off scot-free today; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Friday 4 September 2020, Day 18 of Level 2, Day 162 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a very successful and well organized day, having written my Blogpost for the day last night already; for getting my head together in writing a summary of issues relating to overcharging by Sandak-Lewin in numerous respects, needed for a meeting with my lawyer this afternoon; for not having Loadshedding at 12h00, giving me extra time to complete my summary, and to do a walk through Camps Bay, so excited to see Firefly open today, only serving beverages this weekend, and food from Monday onwards; for a quick pop in at Dinkel Bakery to get my favourite poppy seed roll; for fetching my restrung pearl bracelets from FreeRange; for a very productive meeting about Sandak-Lewin with my lawyer, finding it hilarious that they are managing agents for the Keerom Street building in which my lawyer has her chambers too, and she had little nice to say about them as well; for a shop in the Garden’s Centre; for a second Camps Bay walk, seeing The 41 and Mantra Café having reopened today; for being invited to The 41 by Marius Blanc as I walked past, not only offered an Aperol Spritz but also gifted a brightly designed mask; for a lovely sunset, taking photographs at the Tidal Pool; for a lovely 18C sunny day; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

#Grateful for a beautiful day of sunshine 🌞🌞🌞, feeling so much more cheerful; for getting my work done this morning before Loadshedding hit us the first time at midday, an opportunity to go for a Camps Bay walk; for receiving more financial Information from a Sandak-Lewin Accounts person super efficiently today 🙏; for a quick break, sitting at a table in the sun, to enjoy a slice of the super moist Carrot Cake at Manna Epicure, seeing owner Agnes Renault briefly; for friendly service from the German Butcher across the road; for meeting Jenny Stephens for tea at the recently reopened Woolworths WCafé in the Waterfront, seeing the team of René, Tracy and their male colleague, not having seen any of them in the past five months; for some walking steps on the way to Jenny’s car; for a one-hour wonder of having a chipped tooth fixed and topped with a crown 😊; for being able to dance 💃💃💃 again, first with the lovely DJ Candice Heyns, and then at La Parada Bree Street; for bumping into Gary Peterson and Thomas at Chefs Warehouse & Canteen; for getting home just in time to eat something quickly before our next load of Loadshedding at 20h00; and for being happy and healthy, a fabulous day. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 15 of Level 2, 1 September 2020.

Tuesday 1 September 2020, Day 15 of Level 2, Day 159 of Lockdown, Spring Day 🌸, Cap Classique Day 🥂

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a slightly warmer day today, but didn’t feel like the forecast 19C, with a very strong South Easter/Berg Wind ahead of lots more rain tomorrow ☔️, thanks to the Full Moon; for a far better admin and good writing day, following up on a number of issues, none so sweet than the final checking on my Hermanus house, occupation going to the purchaser as of today, such a relief 🙏💙; for a Camps Bay walk, Raze Katz  (our ex Portfolio Guest House contact) stopping when she drove past and she couldn’t believe the weight loss, not having seen each other in more than 5 years, as did Debra Armstrong, a South African New Zealander, getting to know each other on Facebook recently, and have a date for a tea/coffee at the new Firefly when it opens, hopefully this weekend, having missed connecting with other walkers; for a drive to Sea Point, filling up today, saving a royal sum of 38 cents before the petrol price goes up at midnight, and then heading to Landscape Art Garden Centre, where I more than squandered my saving, buying a jasmine, a daisy bush, a third plant, more pansies, spinach, and cucumber seeds. Boy, how their prices have shot up, almost doubling since they first reopened three months ago, and all Covid procedures at the entrance thrown out of the window…. 😷; for my favourite ice cream and Belgian chocolate sauce at The Dairy Den, across the road from where the nursery was previously located; for a quick planting of one set of the plants, to give them a good soaking tomorrow; for a walk through Bakoven, always surprised about how many masks I see lying on the pavement, and throw into the bins 😷😱; for buying healthy vegetables at Woolies with which I made a soup for tomorrow’s wintry weather, with loads of coriander from the garden; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 1 of Level 2, 18 August 2020.

Tuesday 18 August 2020, Day 1 of Level 2. The 145th Day of Lockdown. 😷.

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for an interesting day of surprises; for more sun to warm up the winter day, but the clouds still made it a chilly day, not quite as cold as yesterday; for having no writing to do, having written today’s story yesterday afternoon; for tackling Sandak-Lewin in more ways than one, not wanting to divulge too much right now; for organizing the rest of what is to become a very sociable spoiling week; for warming Camps Bay and Bakoven walks, happy to see Telkom workers fixing a badly damaged manhole and surrounding pavement; for the privilege of being able to call Councillor Nicola Jowell twice today; for our transplanted carrots growing beautifully after all the rain; for the invitation from Woolies Camps Bay to feature in a video tomorrow; for dancing to Dansdag ón Kfm; for getting an early night, as at 20h00, with the compliments of ESKOM Loadshedding 😱🥵; for the generosity of Martin Koch for fetching our Tourist Guiding Badges, and bringing mine to me this afternoon; for a cat chat with Michele Antelme; and for being happy and healthy 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 60 of Level 3, 30 July 2020.

Thursday 30 July 2020, Day 60 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful day, also 18C, but it felt warmer than yesterday; for a lazy morning, yesterday’s Quentin’s Restaurant Review rolling into today, leading me to go on a mid-morning walk to check out a police roadblock I heard about, but it had already finished, so I went shopping at Woolies instead; for the good news that my official Tourist Guide card is ready, and that I can fetch it on Tuesday – the department only opens twice a week, even though Tourist Guides have officially been allowed back in business since the beginning of June ; for listening to a National Tourist Guides Association webinar about claiming for the Tourist Guide Relief Fund, it finding one and one not having to fill in any forms – the question is if I am on the provincial list already, as it took them two months to register us!; for the surprise of our Tourism Minister making an announcement about the Curfew being pushed back by an hour, to give some relief to the Restaurant industry, unexpected that a national regulation is changed for the sake of Restaurants and diners; for another walk to Camps Bay, and more shopping at Woolies, bringing a shopping bag this time, and spending time at the Tidal Pool, savouring the reflections in it; for receiving delivery of a special top from Out of the Blue, a bargain I saw on their Instagram account, and fitting perfectly; for a good dose of Vit D on the terrace; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful #grateful #grateful for how far I have come during the Corona Virus Lockdown in the past four months, writing a post on Facebook and my Blog about everything I’m grateful for; for a calm peaceful day; for a walk through Camps Bay and then Bakoven, seeing lots of bins standing outside on the pavements, residents not getting the message that the garbage service was cancelled today; for not being affected by the protests in Cape Town today; for the weather turning into a beautiful day, warm at 18C, and very cosy in the sun on the terrace; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
