Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 68 of Level 3, 7 August 2020.

Friday 7 August 2020, Day 68 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for the most fabulous day, starting with the perfect sunny day, forecast at 17C but in the 20sC for sure, a taste of summer again; for a busy morning, not having slept as much as I should but being very happy today just from the sunshine plus more; for meeting Vivian Warby for tea and a croissant 🥐 at Maison J, not having seen each other since Lockdown, so much catching up to do; for having a crown made, made in the dentist rooms with a 3D laser, taking 12 minutes, technically unbelievable; for finding a pair of walking shorts I was looking for at Sportsman’s Warehouse, with less good service than I usually receive at The Point Branch; for picking up some more poppy seed bagels at Kleinsky’s; for meeting Bryce Shapiro at Latitude Café to tackle my Amazon problem, but we needed to contact an Apple Wizz friend of his, to understand the Browser problem we are experiencing in the application process, my phone software and Browsers all being up to date; for selling my house in Hermanus Yipee Yay ❤️; for meeting with Lisa Hayden, coming to fetch a slice of the cheese cake which I kept for her; for a cat food bulk pack pet food shop at Pick n Pay; for dancing to Kfm 💃; for bumping into Tidal Pool swimmer Dave Talbot at the Pool on my walk, his first swim in more than 4 months, what a fabulous hug 💙; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙

My Blogpost today was the Sweet & Sour Service Awards, which went to Maison J and Telkom, respectively.

Sweet Service Award goes to Maison J; Sour Service Award goes to Telkom!

Vivian and I went to Caprice for tea, but the service was so slack that we left and went to Maison J.

It’s hard to summarize the drama of the five-year journey of getting my former Hermanus guest house sold. It was sold on an auction to a person who turned out to live in my house without paying occupational rent, who used my property to store furniture and other belongings from another house, stole the geysers, aircons, safes etc so that he could reduce the purchase price, didn’t once provide guarantees for the balance of the payment due, took us to court when we tried to sell the company owning the property to another person, and had himself registered as the only person allowed to buy the property, but never paying for it in the five years, finally buying a house elsewhere, and out of some bizarre spite still hung on to my sale until we threatened him with court action. A horrid notorious Hermanus man. 🥵🥵🥵🥵

And then by luck or was it meant to be, I didn’t just gain a Tourist Guide qualification as a result of the course I took, but I also met the lovely and kind Johan Prins, who heard my Hermanus tragedy, connected me to a property developer there, and the rest is history! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Today was the three year anniversary of starting a dental journey with my dentist Dr Wim de Beer in the Waterfront, having implants done, and recently the crown after a root canal. I also had to have a tooth extracted today, a tough job to get the molar out with all sorts of ‘pliers’, but finally it was out. I needed to take a pain killer when I got home and buy a course of antibiotics. Kfm, Dave Talbot, Tidal Pool, camps bay, sea Point, There were some service issues with the receptionist which I fed back to the dentist, and he promised that he is addressing them. So I gained a brand new tooth today, and lost an old unnecessary one.

The Red Bus started operating again today, only doing so on weekends initially. So sad to see a Bo-Kaap landmark Batavia Café announce its closure on Instagram.

Loved my long chat with Jenny Stephens this evening ❤️❤️❤️.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, and lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Gratitude for a sunny day today, despite it still being a chilly 14C as a result of a light South Easter, August looking like a wintry month all the way through; for the assistance I received from Ash Perremore Anthea Fletcher and Zoe Harbourne, who all tried to help me with my Amazon technical problem, not having lost hope yet to overcome it; for the amazing news today, that will bring an end to a five year trauma linked to my house in Hermanus, which should be confirmed tomorrow 🙏💙, Johan Prins having been sent to my Tourist Guide class with a purpose, and us becoming friends, another life lesson in the making, celebrating with a 🍷; for a walk through Camps Bay, very quiet again; for chats to Jenny Stephens, Stuart Bailey, and Johan x 2; for all the love in Camps Bay today, the sky having so many 💙-clouds 🙏💙; for a Discovery Gameboard play as well as a Cashback for low kilometers driven last month 💙; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Monday 3 August 2020, Day 64 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4, 130 days of Lockdown 😱😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a cooler but equally beautiful day, overcast, and now ending with rain, earlier than was forecast to start, the kitty cats getting drenched outside; for starting my day in a different manner, taking an early walk so that I could take photographs of Florence Poretti, taking an Aqua Class in the Tidal Pool, with such fabulous music such as ‘Rock around the Clock’, ‘Obladi Oblada’ and more, that I started dancing 💃 at the edge of the pool; for meeting a very friendly young man who used to jog past me in our early morning Exercise times in Level 4, turning out to be Brian Van Hansen, on whose photography website I’ve been posting some pics, what a small world; for the City of Cape Town having finally removed all the kelp we gathered into piles more than 2 weeks ago; for amazing assistance today from my Alex, Darren Combrink and his Robert Anderson, and Lindsey Killops Gibaud, in meeting the technical challenges of applying for two jobs, feeling a little like two steps forward and two backward today, with a Full Moon edge to it; for some good news about the sale of my Hermanus house, with great thanks to Johan Prins; for a Bakoven walk, seeing far too much litter; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 62 of Level 3, 1 August 2020.

Saturday 1 August 2020, Day 62 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful 21C day, feeling like a sunny beach summer day, putting a spring into our steps; for surviving some tense hours as a cat mom, all ending well, with Michele Antelme assuring me that all would be good, and it was 😻; for breakfast with Jenny Stephens on top of Sea Point, enjoying sitting on the 9th floor terrace of Latitude Café; for buying the pair of Adidas shoes from Sportsman’s Warehouse that I had seen online, and for feeling like I’m floating on clouds, soooo comfortable; for spending my Discovery voucher on some Blood sugar test strips at DisChem; for popping into a busy Kleinsky’s to buy poppyseed bagels; for Jenny recommending that I buy a slice of apple tart at Baker Brothers in De Waterkant rather than at the nursery on Main Road in Sea Point, which led me to park outside Kong Grill & Bar, into which I was welcomed and spoilt like I was coming home, having danced there many an evening; for a walk through a very busy Camps Bay, some persons celebrating Eid here, I asking a lady if I could photograph her in her beautiful yellow dress; for rescuing a Woolworths trolley; for dancing to the Kfm Blok party; and for being happy and healthy 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Sweet and Sour Service Awards go to Discovery Vitality !

The Sweet Service Award goes to Discovery, for lowering the bar for its members, having increased the value of the Miles which one can win on the weekly Vitality Gameboard play, and for discounting the ‘cost’ of its Rewards, by 20%. On Wednesday I only had to use 800 Discovery Mikes to buy a DisChem voucher of 1000 Discovery Miles, or R100. It has also lowered the number of steps one does per day to earn 100 points to 7500, from 10000. Continue reading →

Thursday 30 July 2020, Day 60 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful day, also 18C, but it felt warmer than yesterday; for a lazy morning, yesterday’s Quentin’s Restaurant Review rolling into today, leading me to go on a mid-morning walk to check out a police roadblock I heard about, but it had already finished, so I went shopping at Woolies instead; for the good news that my official Tourist Guide card is ready, and that I can fetch it on Tuesday – the department only opens twice a week, even though Tourist Guides have officially been allowed back in business since the beginning of June ; for listening to a National Tourist Guides Association webinar about claiming for the Tourist Guide Relief Fund, it finding one and one not having to fill in any forms – the question is if I am on the provincial list already, as it took them two months to register us!; for the surprise of our Tourism Minister making an announcement about the Curfew being pushed back by an hour, to give some relief to the Restaurant industry, unexpected that a national regulation is changed for the sake of Restaurants and diners; for another walk to Camps Bay, and more shopping at Woolies, bringing a shopping bag this time, and spending time at the Tidal Pool, savouring the reflections in it; for receiving delivery of a special top from Out of the Blue, a bargain I saw on their Instagram account, and fitting perfectly; for a good dose of Vit D on the terrace; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful #grateful #grateful for how far I have come during the Corona Virus Lockdown in the past four months, writing a post on Facebook and my Blog about everything I’m grateful for; for a calm peaceful day; for a walk through Camps Bay and then Bakoven, seeing lots of bins standing outside on the pavements, residents not getting the message that the garbage service was cancelled today; for not being affected by the protests in Cape Town today; for the weather turning into a beautiful day, warm at 18C, and very cosy in the sun on the terrace; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Gratitude for 123 days (4 months) of Corona Virus Lockdown, a new way of living and being!

Today 4 months ago, on 27 March, we started a new way of living, in Corona Lockdown. As I wrote a post of Gratitude on Facebook this morning, I realised how significant my Gratitude List is to me, and how I value how I have grown in this short period of time, and therefore I want to document it on my Blog too.

Ultimately, special friendships are highest up on this list. So too is realising how unimportant material possessions are, and that it is the simple things in life that count. Very special is adopting my Minsky cat, a win-win for both of us, and creating a vegetable garden using our own compost. I’m grateful that I could qualify and be registered as a Tourist Guide in this time. And that I have never been lonely with the company of Facebook, my playlist, Kfm, and my German TV stations ZDF and ARD.

Sunday 26 July 2020, Day 56 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for the rain which fell overnight, making it a cooler 17C day today, oddly with a summer South- Easter, but very nippy, especially now as the sun has set; for two tea dates today, with Lynne Gordon at La Belle Bistro & Bakery, and then with Mahmud Fredericks at Maison J; for a walk through Camps Bay, and through Bakoven this afternoon; for another fabulous concert with Daniel Hope of Hope@Home on Tour with Salut Salon, performing from Potsdam; for doing my Accounting for June and most of July, proud of how frugal I have become; for ending the day with a lovely chat with Charlotte Zachariou in Knysna;  and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Saturday 25 July 2020, Day 55 of Level 3, after 66 days at Levels 5 and 4. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a sunny day, cooler at 18C, getting ready for rain tonight, with clouds moving in now; for having Joel to help me clean up Camps Bay, the two of us doing a deep clean; for bumping into David Smith twice in 24 hours, he teaching a German to SUP on the Tidal Pool, not having seen each other in about 10 years, last in my Camps Bay guest house days; for bumping into Lynne Gordon and Linda Gawronsky at the Tidal Pool again, and taking a pic of them with the SUPers in the background; for a short sun snooze on the terrace; for a trip back to town, putting in petrol proactively and fetching a slice of the Peppertree Café Lemon Chiffon cake, they not having it yesterday, and baking it especially, because I love it so much 🙏,; for enjoying a bottle of Durban Poison beer, just having a sudden craving for a beer, not drinking it often; for listening to Hope@Home on Tour, with beautiful baroque music by Concerto Melante from Potsdam; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
