Friday 27 August 2021, Day 32 of Level 3 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a wonderful day, coooooold at 12C max, with snow on the Winelands mountains, and rain this morning and again tonight; for getting my work done by lunchtime; for a walk to Camps Bay, Viv driving past and stopping for a catch up chat; for two clients paying me ahead of the end of the month 🙏🙏; for a quick stop at Zest; for a pop-in at Woolworths to return clothing bought, surprised at the poor service in their ‘Customer Service’ section, only having one person on duty; for another fun Cuisine Capers outing with Gary Peterson at Zeitz MOCAA and its Ocular Lounge on the 6th floor; for our Anatoli website finally going live today; and for being happy, healthy, and free. 🙏💙

The Sweet Service Award went to Le Lude; the Sour Service Award went to Pick n Pay ASAP! for the 4th week running.

I received an invitation from Aleit Academy’s Nicolas Theron to attend their FOOD IS ART pop-up installation, a practical for their second year students. Chef Michiel Geldenhuys was challenged to express the essence of an art exhibition entitled ‘Home is where the Art is’ on the 3rd floor of the Zeitz MOCAA, in three themes, sections, and courses :

1. Oceans and pollution: salmon, avocado and orange, a blue ocean created via food colouring.

2. Time and separation during Lockdown; excellent medium rare beef fillet with a mushroom pea mash on the side, representing corruption via an ashtray.

3. Mzansi : Rainbow Peppermint Crisp – it was multi-coloured but I didn’t get the Peppermint Crisp in taste or appearance.

Our wine choice was a Lourensford The River Garden Chardonnay or a Kanonkop Kadette blend. Gary even had a little of the latter. A Jameson ended off the evening perfectly. 🥃

We were fascinated by a Mystery Lady sitting closest to us, on her own. Having traveled my life journey on my own and knowing what it feels like to eat alone, I invited her to join our table. She declined politely, saying that she was Romancing her Aloneness. When she left, she handed me a slip with a book name entitled ‘Romancing the Ordinary’, which she recommended that I read. She told us that she is an artist, and that she was in Heartbreak. 💛🧡

My FitBit strap broke today, luckily in my home. I was lucky to have a spare short strap and received assistance to get it clipped onto my FitBit, not easy to do. 🙏

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March 2020 and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December,  extended to 15 February on 11 January 2021, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, moved back to Adjusted Level 2 on 31 May, moved back to level 3 on 16 June, and moved back to Adjusted Level 4 on 28 June, extended by two weeks on 11 July, and returned to Level 3 on 26 July, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.

Sweet Service Award goes to Discovery Vitality; Sour Service Award goes to Checkers 60!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Discovery Vitality, for its gift of 2000 points for ‘2019 fitness top-up points’ and 12500 points for ‘2019 Vitality Health Check points’ received on 31 October, related to the fact that due to Lockdown we have not been able to do as much exercise as before, nor do all the points-earning health checks compared to 2019. Whatever the reason, I am not complaining, as the 14500 bonus points catapulted me into Diamond Status, the first time since joining Discovery four years ago. Continue reading →

Gratitude for 123 days (4 months) of Corona Virus Lockdown, a new way of living and being!

Today 4 months ago, on 27 March, we started a new way of living, in Corona Lockdown. As I wrote a post of Gratitude on Facebook this morning, I realised how significant my Gratitude List is to me, and how I value how I have grown in this short period of time, and therefore I want to document it on my Blog too.

Ultimately, special friendships are highest up on this list. So too is realising how unimportant material possessions are, and that it is the simple things in life that count. Very special is adopting my Minsky cat, a win-win for both of us, and creating a vegetable garden using our own compost. I’m grateful that I could qualify and be registered as a Tourist Guide in this time. And that I have never been lonely with the company of Facebook, my playlist, Kfm, and my German TV stations ZDF and ARD.

Sunday 19 July 2020, Day 49 of Level 3, after 66 days of a level 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a summer day at 21C, everyone happy, with a spring in their step, and Camps Bay experiencing a second boom day, just like a normal weekend summer day, with a traffic jam since midday, and still continuing, and our first picnickers visiting our suburb, feeling a lot like pre-Lockdown days; for minimal litter on my walk to Clifton, enjoying this walk, not having been here for more than a week; for a second shorter walk to Woolies, always happy to spot a bargain, seeming to become cheaper than our Pick n Pay; for a long sleep last night and the indulgence of a lovely snooze on the terrace, digesting Vit D; for my cute Minsky playing carguard from her perch on the terrace, as the cars inch through Camps Bay; for quick service from Camps Bay CSI; for another lovely concert by Daniel Hope of Hope@Home performed with the Slovenian Signum Saxophone Quartet in Bonn this evening; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Thursday 2 July 2020, Day 32 of Level 3, after 66 days at Levels 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a lovely day, cold initially, leading to light rain in the early afternoon, and then a sunny end of the day; for enjoying preparing today’s Blogpost; for a lovely stop at Bootlegger, and impressed with the kindness of its manager Jeandre, when I did a first short walk through Bakoven, getting home just before it started raining; for being able to award a bottle of ADHARA extra virgin Olive Oil to Café Charles in De Waterkant for its professional information and visual presentation of their delivery of a Lamb curry dinner last month; for a second longer walk, through Camps Bay, meeting new business persons setting up a business in Camps Bay; for a drink and light supper with my dearest friend Stuart Bailey, a surprise that he is such a cat lover too; and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙

It was requested of me to compile a list of Restaurants offering a Sit-Down service, a challenge to compile it without a base to start with. But I persevered, and got to a list of about 150 restaurants in Cape Town and the Winelands. I was very grateful to Christopher Mark V Lowe for allowing me to post my Blogpost on his Restaurant Facebook page. 🙏

Restaurants offering Sit-Down service in Cape Town and Winelands in Lockdown Level 3: a First List!

Jeandre of Bootlegger Bakoven was very complimentary about the Lockdown Facebook Group, without us ever having met before. We started chatting when I saw two ladies chatting over coffees there, as Sit-Down, it being the first Sit-Down customers I’ve seen since restaurants reopened on Monday. I asked permission to photograph them. I do not know them or their names.

The rain was very light, but every bit helps, and the garden is always happy. ☔️

I met a couple from up north, who found me on Facebook, and called me to ask advice about renting a store in Camps Bay for their product, hardly my forte. I was walking in Camps Bsy when they called, so met with them spontaneously, and I could give them an honest assessment of the best location to go for, and the shopping patterns of locals and tourists. I did feel very sorry for them, as they have signed already.

Stuart Bailey brought a bottle of wine, and I threw some snacks together, we sharing this on the terrace, until we had to go inside when it started drizzling again. He loved playing with Minsky, and declared her to be totally at home here🐱❤️, having had cats when he was younger. I always love our chats and his honesty, being a Sag too. ❤️

President Ramaphosa announces Restaurants to reopen for Sit-Down Service, looks after women by allowing Personal Care industry to reopen and lambasts men for gender-based violence, non-contact sports allowed!

In an interesting Address by President Ramaphosa this evening, almost as much time was spent lambasting men about the violence and crime perpetrated against women and children, as was curbing the spread of the Corona Virus addressed, with new industries which are to reopen announced.

Restaurants may reopen for a Sit-Down Service, Personal Care services such as hairdressers and beauty salons may reopen, ‘licensed’ accommodation excluding Air BnB may reopen, public gathering restrictions will be loosened, theatres and cinemas will reopen, casinos will reopen, conference facilities will reopen, and non-contact sports such as cricket, tennis, and golf may be played. However, no date was announced nor were the specific regulations per type of business addressed. Cigarette sales were not mentioned.  Continue reading →
