SwitchBitch Book 3 completes the Transformation Trilogy, Solo Travelling and Dancing the theme!

I have just completed writing my third SwitchBitch Book in the Transformation Trilogy, this one entitled ‘SwitchBitch: My Journey of Transformation in Travelling Solo, step by step’.

This year was dominated by a trip of a lifetime. I had to summarise for myself and my Facebook friends what this trip had been all about, and I wrote a tongue-in-cheek story, about my journey through eight countries, walking and dancing 1,2 million steps and just under 1000 km in three months: Continue reading →

Sweet Service Award to Pilbeo; Sour Service Award goes to Alda Eustacion Pontevedra!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Pilbeo luggage transfer service in Portugal and Spain, and its operator Jesus Capeans Viña, for the excellent reliable service they offered in collecting and dropping off my suitcase on each of my 15 Accommodation nights in the Portuguese Coastal Camino, starting in Porto in Portugal until I completed the walk in Santiago de Compostela in Spain. When I developed a bad blister underneath my foot, I could be transported with my luggage to the next destination, at the cost of an additional ‘suitcase’. Two changes to my schedule/accommodations were efficiently handled. Continue reading →

WhaleTales Blog and SwitchBitch Book 3 go on a new exciting adventure, step by step!

Today is the first day of a three-month adventure on three continents, and including five countries. Not only is it a personal journey, but it also completes my SwitchBitch Book 3 which I stated writing two months ago, and gives me the opportunity to visit and review restaurants I eat at on my Blog. Franschhoek Literary Festival 2019 brings writers to book!

I have spent the last three days in Franschhoek, attending its very successful Literary Festival, for the first time as a book writer myself. I found it insightful, and loved meeting some authors in person, their personalities shaping what they write, and the characters in their books. Continue reading →

‘SwitchBitch Book 2: My Journey of Transformation in Walking the Camino from Sole to Soul’ has been launched!

It is an exciting achievement to have published the second book in my SwitchBitch trilogy, entitled ‘SwitchBitch: My journey of transformation in Walking the Camino, Sole to Soul’, following in the footsteps of SwitchBitch Book 1, which I launched a year ago. SwitchBitch Book 1 focused on my Physical transformation, in losing 45 kg, while Book 2 is focused on the Spiritual transformation after walking the Camino. Yesterday the Book was presented at a Preview launch at Stargarden Boutique Café in Fish Hoek. Continue reading →

Sweet Service Award goes to Sportsman’s Warehouse; Sour Service Award goes to PostNet!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Sportmans’ Warehouse at The Point Mall, and its staff member Ronaldo, for his excellent service in selling me a new FitBit Charge 3, alerting me to its arrival in the store and then keeping one for me until I had a chance to get to the store, not selling it to anyone else, and contacting me regularly. Once I arrived, he set up my details on the new FitBit, quite a lengthy process of about an hour, but both of us were patient, as the FitBit is a vital tool in my health and fitness management, synced with my Discovery Vitality App. Despite a device change, all my previous data measured on the FitBit Alta are still on my FitBit App.  Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: Le Petit Manoir Restaurant just does not gel, despite Chefs’ experience In a Michelin star restaurant!

Last week I invited my friends Clint and Llewellyn Lambert (GM of the Franschhoek Boutique Hotel, and influential blogger at Hospitality Hedonist) to join me for dinner at Le Petit Manoir in Franschhoek, which opened in July. Having had more than enough time to settle in, it was a severely (and costly) experience, of a completely dysfunctional restaurant. I apologise for the longer than average Review, summarizing my experiences with Chef Kevin Grobler’s cooking since 2015.  Continue reading →

JAN the Journal volume 1 takes food lovers on a journey, in SA and to Italy!

Whilst I wrote SwitchBitch Book 2 in Apricale in Italy earlier this year, I saw JAN the Journal Volume 1 lying in the Apricus Locanda B & B. I was intrigued by its look and feel, and content, knowing Chef Jan-Hendrik van der Westhuizen, Chef and owner of one star Michelin restaurant JAN in Nice, to be highly creative and meticulous in what he does.  Continue reading →
