Celebrating the first anniversary of my career of Communications Consulting!

Today is a special day for me, in celebrating the first anniversary of my career as a Communications Consultant.

On 1 November 2020, in the midst of the Corona pandemic, I commenced working for Utopia Cape Town, taking my career path to new heights. It has been a fulfilling journey to see Utopia grow in its visibility, its Instagram following having grown to 7800, and its Facebook Page liking to 4800, a 150 % increase on each platform in the past 12 months.

The appointment at Utopia Cape Town was followed during the course of this year by that at Anatoli Mediterranean Restaurant, Harvest Culture Eaterie, Zest Restaurant, and newkings boutique hotel. Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a cool day in more ways than one, only 16C but the promised rain never arrived, but it is forecast for tomorrow; for a day of food and connection, having breakfast with Mullerie Taljaard at Labotessa Café, catching up, receiving good advice, and being spoilt rotten with more Diptyque shampoo, soap and conditioner, gifted to each of us by owner Johan du Plessis ❤️; for a quick vegetable shop at Fideli’s; for lunch with Jenny Stephens at Zest, having the Spring Menu of 5 courses at R198, a catch up after three months of not seeing each other, also meeting diners who Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a beautiful summer day, at 24C, locals at the beach and swimming in the Tidal Pool, and a huge traffic jam through Camps Bay from the Hout Bay side right now, ahead of a cold and wet three days from tomorrow; for surviving on 5 hours sleep, when the Nigerians started a party in our block at 6h00 this morning 😱; for a hardworking writing morning; for a Camps Bay walk at midday; for a Vit D shot on my terrace and managing to sleep for another hour; for a Bakoven walk, sensing how happy everyone is on this beautiful day ❤️; and for being healthy and free. Tuesday 23 February 2021, Day 60 of Level 3 Adjusted, Day 335 of Lockdown. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a lovely 22C day, with dark clouds when I went for a walk, as if rain was on its way, but they have almost blown away now; for a wow 500 Discovery points, not sure how that happened, as it’s the same distance to Clifton and back, but I’m not complaining, as it was a good walk; for a good writing morning, also writing for tomorrow already; for a terrace sun snooze; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Monday 28 December 2020, Day 99 of Level 1, Day 278 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a deep but too short sleep; for getting into writing mode early, doing my first ever sponsored posts for my client which all went well, being slightly nervous; for a lovely morning tea and Xmas cake treat with Gary Peterson, airdropping the video he did of the Carte Blanche program to my phone, watching it with him; for receiving a detailed timeline breakdown of everything which Singaporean Lin Yang has been through with the SA Butler Academy, in time for me to add it into my Blogpost about the Carte Blanche program of last night; for all the lovely compliments about the program; for a quick walk to Bakoven, where there was lots of litter to clean up, the same applying to Camps Bay later this afternoon, looking terrible with all the litter in the Tidal Pool area; for a quick drop in by Emma, bringing me a gift of inflatable solar lights; and for being healthy but tired. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

#Grateful #grateful #grateful for how far I have come during the Corona Virus Lockdown in the past four months, writing a post on Facebook and my Blog about everything I’m grateful for; for a calm peaceful day; for a walk through Camps Bay and then Bakoven, seeing lots of bins standing outside on the pavements, residents not getting the message that the garbage service was cancelled today; for not being affected by the protests in Cape Town today; for the weather turning into a beautiful day, warm at 18C, and very cosy in the sun on the terrace; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Food blogger in ‘Death Cup’ murder mystery by Irna van Zyl modelled on WhaleTales Blog!

Last week I found a reference to my name in a review written about author Irna van Zyl’s second book, called ‘Death Cup: Murder is on the menu’, a play on words with a mushroom by the same name, naming me as the model for one of the main characters in the book, as the writer of the ‘infamous food blog’. As I had been told this verbally on another occasion too, I had to go to Exclusive Books to buy a copy of the book. There is no mistaking the blog of the ‘food blogger’ as being my WhaleTales Blog! Returning home to Cape Town after three months on the (European and South American) road as a Solo traveler !

My post below comes from Facebook, a post I wrote in the last few days of my journey through eight countries, walking and dancing 1,2 million steps and just under 1000 km in three months. It was a tongue in cheek story about my journey, motivated in writing my third SwitchBitch Book, but also to share with my Blog readers the World’s 50 Best Restaurants I ate at in Lima, Buenos Aires, Santiago in Chile, Rio de Janeiro, and a Michelin star restaurant in Lisbon, with other great and not so great restaurants, and the interesting Mendoza wine region in Argentina, synonymous with Malbec and the largest in the country. I will be posting stories as soon as I have settled in again and got over the jet lag. Continue reading →
