Tuesday 12 May 2020, Day 12 of Level 4, after 35 days of Level 5 Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a 1000 x better day today than yesterday (celebrating with a glass of wine), being focused on what I had to face and do right at the start of the day; for another beautiful day with the most exquisite sunset, despite being slightly more chilly; for another excellent Exercise Time this morning, getting to 3rd Beach in Clifton before having to turn around, and receiving another generous 300 Discovery Vitality points for the Cardio exertion ❤️; for my exercising of this past week surpasssing that of last week, averaging 15000 steps and 11 km per day; for receiving the most kind and generous service from Jared Stein of Camps Bay Hardware, when he sourced Citronella candles for me, with a village values feel; for having a busy working day; for chatting to Chef Jenny Morris, trying to encourage her to do deliveries of her Yumcious salads and pork belly; for our nurses around the world, recognized through International Nurses Day; for discovering that two German shops in Gardens are operating (Hartlief and The German Grocer); for connecting with my Alex ❤️; for dancing to Kfm this afternoon; and for being happy and healthy 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Monday 11 May 2020, Day 11 of Level 4, after 35 days of Level 5 Lockdown. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another beautiful day, at 22 C, and a lovely sunset; for an excellent walk up to Fourth Beach Clifton this morning, so good that I received 300 Discovery points without having finished my 10000 steps, my Cardio being over 70% of my normal heart rate ❤️; for being able to shop straight after Exercise Time, even though we had to wait in a queue outside Woolworths until it opened at 9h00; for being able to collect my two new black and white polka dot masks from Petra Quinlan, and to drop off a pair of shorts needing some repair work; for finding a router lying in Rottingdean Lane steps, which I’ve circulated a pic of on Facebook; for posting more restaurants to the Food Delivery List, exceeding 400 restaurants by tomorrow morning, and exceeding 3000 members; for writing Blogposts for later this week; for a long chat to Jenny; for a wonderful Vit D dose; for being featured in a video on Instagram by my Canadian tour operator about what the first thing is that’ll do when Lockdown ends; and for feeling happy and healthy.🙏💙 Continue reading →

Sunday 10 May 2020, Mother’s Day, Day 10 of Level 4, after 35 days at Level 5 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another beautiful sunny day after a very foggy start; that I could still go out to exercise despite the fog, choosing to walk in the opposite direction to normal, as far as the Food Truck parking spot, and then up and down the lanes in Bakoven, deserted, making it very pleasant to walk here, and doing 45 minutes of Cardio (200 Discovery points ❤️); for a Mother’s Day message from my Alex at 4h00 this morning already; for the delivery of a Mother’s Day treat from Food by Kai, including delectable eclairs and more, delivered to my door, being a member of the Restaurant Food Delivery Group (pic below) 👏; for lovely phone calls with Shaun Terry, Stuart Bailey, and from German swallow Gabi Vocke; for enjoying my playlist on a Sunday, not liking the DJ who spends most of the day on a Sunday in the Kfm studio; for hearing from Marlene Du Plessis-Zoetl and that she is finally home again; for a lovely sun snooze on the terrace; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 9 of Level 4, 9 May 2020.

Saturday 9 May 2020, Day 9 of Level 4, after 35 days at Level 5 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another spectacular 24C day, how lucky we are, and how good for one’s soul and spirit; for going to exercise earlier, and therefore walking further, up to First Beach in Clifton, quickly getting to 10000 steps by the time I returned home; for having a relaxed day after the energetic start to the day; for spoiling myself with a pizza delivery from Col’Cacchio Camps Bay, superbly executed hygiene and ordering wise; loving the Vit D sun therapy on my terrace; for yet another lovely sunset; and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 8 of Level 4, 8 May 2020

Friday 8 May 2020, Day 8 of Lockdown Level 4 after 35 days of Level 5 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a long and deep sleep last night; for another beautiful day, how easy it makes the Lockdown when one sees the sun; for being able to exercise so well that my Cardio was super high and I instantly received 300 Discovery Vitality points this morning, after receiving none the last few days, despite my step total every day ❤️, it being the first morning in a week that I didn’t stop for a chat, walking with Mahmud and then (not met before) Carien from Fresnaye for parts of the way; for having Camps Bay Hardware here and open for business, sharing how well he is supported by locals who prefer to buy from him rather than a big building supply store; for getting on top of updating the Restaurant Food Delivery List, allowing myself a first Vit D sun snooze in 10 days this afternoon; for good advice to grow and publicize the Food Delivery List from Janet Pillai; for the growing number of restaurants opening, after possibly initially not thinking of doing so, and at the upper end too; for feeling really free, no longer suffering claustrophobia in my home during Lockdown; for good dancing and fun on Kfm this afternoon, and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Sweet Service Award goes to SA Tourism; Sour Service Award goes to WebAfrica!

The Sweet Service Award goes to South African Tourism, for its impactful and emotive commercials it created, aimed at future tourists to our country. It is entitled ‘Don’t Travel now. So you can travel later’.  One commercial uses Sport images and analogies to show how determined our country is in winning, not only in sports such as cricket and swimming, but also as a nation. Another shows the beauty of our country, including Bo-Kaap, flower sellers in Cape Town, Camps Bay with the backdrop of the Twelve Apostles, and Johannesburg, inviting locals to travel in our own country as soon as travel is allowed again .

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 7 of Level 4, 7 May 2020!

Thursday 7 May 2020, Day 7 of Level 4 after 35 days at Level 5 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for another beautiful day, even if it was slightly cooler at 20C; for being allowed to get out of the house for the luxury of exercising, and meeting and catching up with so many friendly locals and friends, today Mahmud for the first time, and Thomas and Haakon for the third time since Lockdown started; for seeing the kids on their little bikes loving riding inside the old children’s pool; for seeing a greater number of persons wearing their masks properly every day; for meeting staff of the City Parks Dept for the first time in 6 weeks, and being able to ask them to stop irrigating the lawn as the grass is very long and it was spraying the Exercisers on the pavements and walkways this morning ; for a spectacular sunset tonight; for receiving a gift of a box of Adhara olive oil from the Mayer Family via Janet Pillai, to be offered as a give-away on the Lockdown Food Delivery Facebook page, which now stands at over 300 restaurants today: for lovely long chats with Rufus Scholtz about the Facebook page, and with Tracey Blom, reconnecting with her for the first time in 15 years, having worked together in Franschhoek; for no longer feeling the urge to leave my home to shop walk given the morning exercise, yet still exceeding my daily Step goal; and for feeling happy and healthy. 🙏💙

The benches at Vida e Caffe were taped up this morning, to prevent the cyclist coffee drinkers from sitting down there. They now drink their coffee across the road.

This morning I wrote a story about Chef Luke Dale Roberts entering the Food Delivery market at the extreme high end, at prices which are out of reach to most.😱

Corona Virus Lockdown: Chef Luke Dale Roberts enters Food Delivery market, with very high-end up to R5000 Gourmet Hampers!

I wasn’t suitably dressed when a colleague of Janet arrived to deliver the olive oil, and had to blow dry my hair for the obligatory photograph. And then I realized that I didnt wear my mask inside my house…. whereas she did.

An aircon repair company came to check on the aircons of the upstairs neighbour, which have started leaking in front of my door. What they needed to fix the problem they did not bring along. The water is leaking onto the steps I use to go downstairs, making them very treacherous to use.

I called Discovery, to check why they hadn’t taken the payment for the Building Insurance I signed up with them on 30 April. It was too late to teach the bank for the May stop order, but all organized now. Weird that a Discovery staff member tried to call me at 8h15 this morning, during Exercise Time!

WebAfrica must have the worst Call Centre, I having to hold on for ages. They offered to call back ‘shortly’, and I am still waiting, four hours later. 🥵

I danced to Kfm in-between updating the Restaurant list, a never ending story. 💃🎶👣

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this week to commence on 27 March and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, and lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.

Keeping fit whilst being confined to home during the Corona Virus Lockdown!

My biggest fear initially about our Lockdown was not being able to exercise, being a twice a day walker in my suburb of Camps Bay, thereby meeting my daily goal of 10000 steps, deemed by the American Heart Association to be the minimum we need. While I have Solo danced in my home on occasion, to make up this daily goal prior to Lockdown, I had never thought it possible to do 10000 steps, let alone even up to 16000 steps, being confined to my home. Corona Virus : Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 3 of Level 4, 3 May 2020

Sunday 3 May 2020, Day 3 of Level 4 Lockdown, after 35 days of Lockdown Level 5. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for the lovely rain that fell all night, yet stopped just in time for Exercise Time this morning, giving me a good hour walk; for bumping into Eddy Cassar on my walk, a former neighbour from across the road of my Camps Bay guest house, and on the committee of the Cape PR Consultants Forum with me many moons ago, now living in Mallorca and still having a house here, and for bumping into estate agent Bev Joffe who remembered showing me houses in Sea Point before I bought in Fresnaye 12 years ago, very complimentary about what I do in Camps Bay 🙏; for having the laziest Sunday since Lockdown, working from bed and snacking popcorn……; for growing the Food Delivery page to over 2000 members and in excess of 200 restaurants in one week, a big task as more and more restaurants decide to also offer food delivery, with a number of persons wanting to start lists like mine too…. 😱; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
