Despite a hugely challenging year for the wine industry due to the drought, CapeWine 2018 is an impressive showcase of optimism, friendliness, and proudly South Africaness, running at the Cape Town International Convention Centre until tomorrow. Distell crowned tops at 2016 Veritas Awards!
Multi-wine and brandy brand company Distell was crowned as top producer at the Veritas Awards Gala Dinner at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on Friday evening, winning two Double Gold and 12 Gold Awards. ARD movie ‘Einfach Rosa – Wolken über Kapstadt’ shows picturesque Cape Town!
Yesterday evening ARD, the largest TV station in Germany and second largest broadcaster in the world, screened a movie ‘Einfach Rosa – Wolken über Kapstadt’ (‘Simply Rosa – clouds over Cape Town’), a most beautiful representation of Cape Town, and comes at a most welcome time to attract German tourists to our beautiful city and neighboring towns. 25th Veritas Awards crown KWV as 2015 king of the wine industry!
Last night KWV was crowned as the king of the wine industry for the fifth year running, winning 5 Double Gold and 9 Gold Awards for its wines, more than any other winemaker. Nederburg (2 Double Golds and 11 Gold Awards) and Spier (2 Double Golds and 8 Gold Awards) followed in second and third place, respectively, awarded at one of the highlights of the wine industry, a function attended by about 400 wine industry staff and media, with their partners. Kanonkop won the Best Performance by Entry title for 10 wines or fewer entered, while KWV won the title for more than 10 wines entered. A total of 57 Double Gold, 157 Gold, 473 Silver, and 662 Bronze medals was awarded. A mix of local and international judges evaluated the entries.

CapeWine 2015 is the most successful wine exhibition ever hosted in our country, its attendance in the Cape Town International Convention Centre having grown by 27% since 2012, with 1900 visitors from 58 countries attending. Biggest ever conference secured for Cape Town, with 15000 delegates!
Wesgro has announced that its Cape Town and Western Cape Convention Bureau has won the bid to host the World Ophthalmology Congress, with 15000 delegates, in 2020. The Congress will be one of the largest medical meetings in the world, and the largest ever held in Cape Town.

Cape Winemakers Guild Auction Showcase puts prime wines on show!
To give wine lovers a taste of the excellent quality of wines to be sold at the 31st Cape Winemakers Guild Auction at the Spier Conference Centre on 3 October, a tasting of the 55 wines takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre tonight.
The focus of the Cape Winemakers Guild auctions is quality-crafted wines made by the select group of winemakers who form part of the elite Guild. * A new internationally recognised independent beer tasting competition for our country has been announced, organised by the same team that runs The South African Wine Tasting Championships. The South African National Beer Trophy will be awarded to winners in various categories, brands to be entered by breweries, micro-breweries, and home brewers. No ciders or meads can be entered.
