Sweet Service Award goes to Emirates; Sour Service Award goes to New Milton Taxi Service!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Emirates, for the excellent service on board their A380 flight to London from Dubai in particular, operated in conjunction with Qantas. The food is excellent, the seats wide and comfortable with ample legroom, and the service far better than the Cape Town – Dubai leg. On the Cape Town – Dubai leg we were offered the menus after the trolley came to our seats, and when I asked what type of fish was served, the hostess said that she did not know, thinking it was ‘white fish’. I was disappointed to not have seen the menu in advance, as it was hake, and I would have chosen this instead of the spicy chicken alternative.

Sweet Service Award goes to the Travel Clinic; Sour Service Award goes to Discovery Vitality!

The Sweet Service Award goes to the Travel Clinic, and its Dr Etienne Fourie and assistant Debbie Gresak, who managed to squeeze me in with no booking for a Yellowfever vaccination for an overseas trip, having been recommended by Grant from the Bantry Bay Pharmacy. FitBit a fabulous fitness tool and motivation, discovering my health and fitness with Discovery!

I have not been fitness-conscious in many years, but in preparation for my Camino walk, I decided to invest in a FitBit, a watch that not only tells the date and time, but also provides information about one’s activity in terms of steps and kilometers covered, calories burned, and one’s heart rate. Emirates Sweet Service Award; British Airways Sour Service Award!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Emirates, for its flight from London to Dubai, on Sunday 1 July. At the check-in I was told to reduce 5 kg of weight of my suitcase, luckily having bought a hand-luggage suitcase into which I could transfer items of that weight, and having to check it in too, to avoid paying extra. My son had left my check-in too late, so I was allocated a poor seat. I asked the check-in lady if she could find me a window seat, but she told me that the fight was full, and that all such seats were taken already. She said that she would continue to try to find me a window sat, and that I should ask again at the boarding gate desk. Audi Cape Town Sweet Service Award! Emirates Sour Service Award!

The Sweet Service Award goes to Audi Cape Town, and its amazing customer-caring Service Manager Hennie Kriel. My car had been in for panel beating at Farber Coachworks whilst I was overseas, and they must have disconnected the electronics in doing so, as the time on the dashboard was incorrect. The dashboard also told me that my car key needed a new battery. Hennie sorted out both problems quickly, as he always does, and there was no charge, as the battery cost is covered by the Maintenance Plan. I had the misfortune to experience Dubai under less than perfect conditions, and with it Emirates airline, which once was the best airline in the world (now dropped to number four, as rated by Skytrax)! *   Shocking news is that acting CEO of SAA Nico Bezuidenhout has been moved back to head up Mango with immediate effect.  No explanation for his sudden move has been made, and no announcement as to his successor made. The move may link to the media report which stated that Bezuidenhout had revealed that a deal with Emirates had been stopped in the 11th hour by a high-ranking Parliamentary official. Officially, the move is linked to a Bezuidenhout having completed his 90-day turnaround plan for the airline.

*   SA Tourism is going on another India Road Show this year, visiting Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and New Dehli in February. Franschhoek Wine Valley and Paarl & Wellington Tourism are some of the local Road Show participants. India Country Manager for SA Tourism Hanneli Slabber said that some 24000 tourists from India visited our country between January and March last year.
