Misfits a mix of restaurant, Gin Academy, wine shop, coffee bar, event venue, and work space!

I was recently contacted by Ideas Cartel owner Schuyler Vorster, and invited to experience it. We have never met. I had to Google the directions to find the venue, and was surprised to see that it was the former Beluga, which closed down during Lockdown.

Subsequently I returned to the restaurant twice, for a dinner invitation, and then for an ice cream and gin pairing.

Misfits is a restaurant, entertainment venue, event venue, Inverroche Gin Academy, work space, coffee bar, wine shop, and indoor golf putting area.

Restaurant Review: Hazendal Avant-Garde The Russian Tea Ceremony a South African inspired High Tea with a Russian flavour!

Two weeks ago I needed to drop off a prize to Hazendal Executive Chef Michelle Theron, one of the 2021 Top 10 Women Chefs of the Cape. My road trip partner was Gary Peterson.

A mere 36 minute trip from Camps Bay via the R300 led us to a gem of more than a wine estate, not having visited it before. It contrasts the 300 plus year history with modernity through the use of glass structures. Continue reading →

#grateful for a beautiful day, feeling like summer at 17C, wearing shorts and a sleeveless top on my midday walk; for an uninterrupted sleep last night 🙏; for packing in a lot of writing and client work this morning, preparing for two Status meetings this afternoon; for my Dinkel poppyseed rolls being ready for me; for meeting a wonderful Facebook Friend Celia Mauerberger for the first time, who is so kind, supporting my Facebook Stories in the early hours of the day, at Frosted in Sea Point, where they make delicious cupcakes ❤️❤️❤️; for making myself the most cosy bed with a second duvet Continue reading →

Wednesday 9 June 2021, Day 10 of Adjusted Level 2 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a more relaxed day; starting with a visit to Bootlegger in Bakoven to chat to Councillor Nicola Jowell in her mobile office, meeting Camps Bay residents, giving me an early first walk of the day; for getting my work done, leaving me half an hour on the terrace in the sun, the morning fog having lifted and it being much colder today than the past few days; for a good status meeting at Anatoli; for being able to see my hotel client for a quick meeting; for having time for another half an hour Bakoven walk at sunset, at the tail end of Stage 3 Loadshedding 😱; and for being happy, Continue reading →

Labotessa Café a Dutch-inspired secret in a 5-star luxury boutique hotel on Church Square!

It was by chance that I discovered Labotessa Café in the Labotessa Boutique Hotel on Church Square in Parliament Street in Cape Town two weeks ago. It is part of the Labotessa Hotel, in a beautifully renovated five story building reminiscent of Amsterdam from its exterior, exuding beauty and style.

I visited Labotessa twice, and on my second visit I was lucky to meet the owner Johan du Plessis, and to be shown around the Hotel by him. Continue reading →

Wednesday 24 February 2021, Day 61 of Level 3 Adjusted, Day 336 of Lockdown 😷.

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Gratitude for a lovely sunny day, but with a strong wind blowing now; for an organized writing morning and meeting preparation; for Minsky returning home at 8h00 this morning after galavanting for 12 hours, being very worried about her and sleeping very badly; for a very quick walk through Bakoven and its lanes, too short a walk to make any impact with Discovery; for returning to Labotessa Café which I discovered last week, having a breakfast lunch; for a good first Status meeting at Anatoli; for a meeting with Juanita Levetan, a member of the Sea Point, Fresnaye, Bantry Bay Ratepayers & Residents Association, exchanging experiences about cleaning litter in Sea Point and Camps Bay; for a partly nerve-wracking Live Cook Channel cooking of pan-roasted prawns and hake, with linguine and a fennel crème, designed by Chef Reuben Riffel; for topping up petrol at BP President on Regent Road, only needing a third of a tank added, happy that Michael was on duty, a fabulous petrol attendant; for two Discovery Gameboard plays, one generating 500 points, and a total of 675 between the two, allowing me to buy a Woolies R100 voucher; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful 28C wind-free day, as if specially designed to celebrate the reopening of beaches today, the Camps Bay Beach and Tidal Pool being busy, as was Victoria Road; for the car guards smiling in being kept busy and earning tips, and no doubt the restaurants and supermarkets benefiting too; for a meeting with another prospective Communications client, which led to a second prospective client……. all too good to be true 😱; for fetching my laundry and shopping at Woolies on Regent Road in Sea Point; for a walk on the Camps Bay Promenade and Tidal Pool area with Imtiaz, there being lots of litter to pick up, there being so many picnickers; for lovely dancing music on Kfm Dansdag; for learning how business works, after many decades of not working for clients; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
