The explosion of restaurant openings in Cape Town and the Winelands in September is flowing into October too. Last month saw the opening of Tiger’s Milk Kloof Street, Marrow, Davy Croquettes, The Yard, Schoon de Companje in its new premises, Pierino Penati at Villa 47, and Firefish, amongst others.

We update information about newly opened and closed restaurants continuously, and welcome such news.

It is already busy, attracting custom with little marketing effort to date by the Harbour House Group. A hugely exciting attraction is that DJ René Tanguy will be playing at the newest Tiger’s Milk on Fridays, starting this week. It is the 26th Harbour House Group restaurant to open.  (more…)

On Tuesday evening I had the honour of experiencing Rare Grill, which was named 2017 The Wolftrap Steakhouse Championship winner, the first time in the five year history of the Championships that a Cape Town steakhouse has won the award. As a restaurant writer in the main, and focusing on the food side mostly, it was an honour to be invited by Harbour House Group Brand Manager Stuart Bailey to participate in a blind-tasting of more than 500 wines over four days, to select those rated best for the winelists of the 25 or so restaurants in the Harbour House Group. At the beginning of this month I attended a weekend Argentine Tango workshop at Temenos, the spiritual retreat in McGregor. I learnt more than just the basic Tango dance steps, and learnt about myself too, in that the dance has a spiritual side. (more…)

Yesterday I attended the HQ Brunch Sunday Social, the first time that the restaurant in Heritage Square opened on a Sunday.  Brunches are a new trend, La Parada Constantia Nek also launching its new Toast Brunch yesterday. (more…)

La Parada is my favorite Constantia venue, spending every Sunday afternoon there, enjoying the music of DJ René Tanguy, and dancing. From tomorrow onwards, Toast Brunch will be served at Constantia Nek on the first Sunday of the month, from 10h00 – 14h00, at R 350 per head. (more…)
