Restaurant Review: Osteria Tarantino dishes not all home-made, dished up with Italian temperament!

Last Friday my French housemate and I went to eat lunch at Osteria Tarantino, the tiniest Italian restaurant in Cape Town, seating no more than 32 pax inside and outside. We had both wanted to try it, based on word of mouth, but were disappointed with our experience, and found it to be exceptionally expensive. The Bootlegger Coffee Company has grown by leaps and bounds, opening branches not only locally but internationally too. On Tuesday Winemag.co.za awarded 25 Cape Bordeaux Red Blends top scores of 90 and higher, out of 100, the third year that Editor and chairman of the judging committee Christian Eedes has compiled a Report on this wine category. Chefs who Share receives support from Italian Ambassador!

VeggieBoxThe Italian Ambassador Vincenzo Shioppa Narranta will be hosting an Italian-inspired dinner for 18 persons at his ambassadorial residence in Bishopscourt on 11 November, the proceeds of which will go to the Chef’s who Share’s Veggie Box Initiative. Wines will be from Morgenster, and its owner Giulio Bertrand will attend the dinner as well.

iFix Sweet Service and 95 Keerom restaurant Sour Service Awards!

imageThe Sweet Service Award goes to iFix at the V & A Waterfront and its Manager Jo Robinson, for his service recovery after receiving the Sour Service Award last week. He called me last Friday, and apologized profusely for his staff letting their side down. He encouraged me to call him directly for any future problems. I told him about two sticky keys I have on my laptop, and he told me to bring it in, despite the company not working on Samsung laptops. They cleaned the laptop, but could not get the two keys fixed. MR De Compostella 2013 named 2015 Best Overall Bordeaux-style red blend!

imageAt a function in the lovely Bar of the newly opened De Warenmarkt in Stellenbosch Mvemve Raats De Compostella 2013 was named the overall winner of the inaugural RisCura Red Hot Wine Awards for Bordeaux-style red blends.

Few restaurant closures and openings in Cape Town and Winelands in Winter 2015!

imageWinter is almost over, and we are delighted to report that few restaurants have closed down in the past few cold months. By the same token, few new restaurants have opened. Heartbreaking was the fire which closed down The Stack one week after it opened last month in Leinster Hall in Gardens.  We update information about newly opened and closed restaurants continuously.
