*   The Department of Home Affairs denies that international tourism numbers have declined in the first quarter of this year, claiming a 0,6% increase in foreign Tourist arrivals. The Department is comparing apples and pears, only providing information about March 2015 relative to March 2014, and not for the full quarter!

*   Domestic Tourism declined by 200000 persons between 2012 – 2014, mainly due to perceptions that travel locally is not affordable, says DA Shadow Minister of Tourism James Vos.  Despite the decline in numbers, the income generated from domestic tourism increased by R2,3 billion to R24 billion between the two years, indicating that Domestic Tourism has become more expensive, according to Mr Vos, reports Travel News Weekly (TNW).

*   Minister of Tourism Derek Hanekom has acknowledged that visitor numbers from China have dropped dramatically in the second half of last year, by close to 25%, and attributes this to the new Immigration regulations but to Ebola as well.
