Thursday 17 June 2021, Day 2 of Level 3 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a fabulous day; for a long sleep, with more deep sleep than I’ve had in ages, there being no disturbance at all, the noisy guests having checked out today 🧡🧡🧡; for getting work for my client meetings done; for the most wonderful rain overnight, during most of the day, and now again; for a good Anatoli meeting; followed by one with Utopia, doing a little winetasting, a red one, perfect for the weather; for meeting and interviewing the new Utopia Head Chef Dennis Luke, his wife working at Zest; for picking up some rolls at Kleinsky’s, and the lovely chocolate cake at Bokeh Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 45 of Level 3, 15 July 2020.

Wednesday 15 July 2020, Day 45 of Level 3, after 66 days of Levels 5 and 4. 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a beautiful sunshine day, with a nippy start, putting a lift into everyone’s step, and happy that we will have another 7 days of sunshine before the next rain arrives; for getting my writing done in good time; for being spoilt by a lunch invitation at Latitude Café in Sea Point, a lovely setting in the 9th floor on the Latitude ApartHotel, connecting with two acquaintances; for donating blood 🩸, Rita Rodrigues being the nicest staff member there, always a pleasure to give, for being offered tea and biscuits afterwards, and receiving a present; for the amazing generosity of Discovery Vitality today…. not often experienced; for picking up two desserts on the Pilcrow & Cleaver menu this week in town, and meeting owner Chef Judi Fourie, only having messaged each other up to now; for a walk through Camps Bay, no clearing up of storm debris done yet, so I’ve booked Joel for tomorrow so that we can start with clearing the pavements, so that locals can walk again; for a walk through Bakoven at sunset time; for missing out on Loadshedding today; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Restaurant Review: New Exhibit A Fine-dining restaurant serves fine fun food, but service does not match cuisine quality!

I have experienced the cuisine creativity and presentation of Chefs Rikku O’Donnchü and Warwick King three times at Gåte when they opened at Quoin Rock wine estate outside Stellenbosch a year ago, and three times since they established their own SŸN Group since leaving Gåte, first as a SŸN Pop-up, and then as their brand new Exhibit A, in the past year, In this period I have seen the growth in this creative chef team, challenging itself continuously to do things differently and to break their own boundaries. De Warenmarkt in Stellenbosch serendipitous connection of like-minded owners and patrons!

imageYesterday a planned pop-in at De Warenmarkt in Stellenbosch became a three-hour visit of chatting and eating with a number of persons also having lunch, and meeting one of the co-owners, who shared the story of the establishment with me.

I had thought that De Warenmarkt had opened while I was overseas, but it has only been operating for a week. Having seen Errieda du Toit’s photographs on her Facebook page, I decided to drive back from Franschhoek via Stellenbosch yesterday, so that I could pop-in at De Warenmarkt, which operates from the building previously housing the Continue reading →
