Are there too many new restaurant openings in Cape Town and Winelands?: November 2017!

The explosion of restaurant openings in Cape Town and the Winelands in the last two months is a concern to many, both as restaurant lovers, in that one cannot keep up, and as restaurant owners, as there is not enough business for everyone.

Last month saw the opening of Seta at Villa 47, Le coin Français by Darren Badenhorst in Franschhoek, The Bistro and Deli at La Paris outside Franschhoek, Chef Duncan Doherty’s Eatery at Colmant in Franschhoek, and Boschendal at Oude Bank in Stellenbosch, amongst others.

The Yard opens in Waterfront’s Silo District as multi-cultural cuisine Lifestyle Restaurant, Bar, Deli, and Homeware outlet!

The new The Yard in the Silo District of the V&A Waterfront opened last week, as a multi-cultural cuisine restaurant, but also offering a bar, a homeware shop, and a Deli. It is the most unique restaurant I have experienced, in its diverse food offering. Continue reading →

Cape Town becomes the centre of the art world in Africa with the opening of the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA)!

The Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa, referred to as Zeitz MOCAA, is a public not-for-profit contemporary art museum in the Silo district of the V&AWaterfront, which collects, preserves, researches, and exhibits 21st century art from our continent of Africa. Restaurant Winter chill sets in, first restaurants close in Cape Town: July 2017!

SeaBreeze Fish & Shell, The Sunnyside Grill, and the Crazy Horse Gastropub are three new restaurants which opened in Cape Town during June. Two Hout Bay restaurants have closed down as the Winter chill sets in!  Über creative Pastry Chef André Steyn has joined La Colombe.

Restaurant Review Two: Reuben’s Franschhoek re-opens in new venue, mix of new and familiar dishes!

Last Friday I drove to McGregor via Franschhoek, so that a friend and I could try out the new Reuben’s Franschhoek, which opened two weeks ago in a new location off the main road. The year of reshaping and renovating the new venue has been well worthwhile,  the restaurant feeling homely, offering good service, the food being excellent, and with Chef Reuben in the kitchen.  Continue reading →

Restaurants continue to open in Cape Town and Winelands: April 2017!

The Granary Café, The Silo Rooftop, Bosjes Kombuis, The Deck at Hidden Valley, The Chicken Shop, Harrington’s Cocktail Lounge, and Yuzu Kitchen & Bar opened in Cape Town and the Winelands during March. Surprisingly (or not!) both Baked on Long and Baked on Regent Street have closed down, as has Love, Revenge, and Cappuccino closed down! After a record year of restaurant openings, the pace of new restaurants opening in Cape Town and in the Winelands has slowed down, with no new restaurant openings in January, to our knowledge.
