Tomorrow the 40th Cape Town Cycle Tour, more commonly referred to as The Argus after its former media sponsor, will be held in Cape Town, a year after the race had to be called off due to extreme wind speeds. No such action is likely tomorrow. The event planners have gone out of their way to make it as water-friendly as possible. It is surprising that Cape Town appears so empty, and that so few cyclists have been seen on the roads this year. (more…)

imageLast Saturday evening my friend Giulio Loggerian and I dined at La Sosta restaurant in Swellendam, which won Eat Out Best Italian restaurant in 2014. It was an unusual experience in a number of respects, especially in that the owners themselves describe La Sosta as an ‘Italian restaurant with a twist’! (more…)

Plett Police Station Whale CottageThe Sweet Service Award goes to the Plettenberg Bay Police for the second week running.  After the burglary last week, the police managed to retrieve a large proportion of my stolen furniture, and some of the fittings.  After my departure from Plett on Sunday, more items were retrieved by the police, including a free-standing bath, some beds, a shower door, and a fridge/freezer.  Having to be in Cape Town on other business, Detective Warrant Officer John Nomdoe came to see me in my home  in Cape Town yesterday, so that I could sign off acceptance of my retrieved items.  The police station has gone beyond the call of duty in its service.
