The Sweet Service Award goes to Woolworths in the Waterfront, and its Manager Warren Sitzer. I received poor service in looking to buy wine glasses in the Homeware department, so poor that I went to buy some at @Home instead. At Country Road inside the Woolworths store I wanted to pay for a top, but there was no staff member to be seen. I wanted to relate both service issues to a manager, and Warren listened, apologised with charm, and brought me some roses. He said he remembered my son and I shopping at the Paarl Mall branch more than ten years ago, when we lived in Franschhoek. He also shared the amazing developments lying ahead for this Waterfront branch. He invited me to chat to him at any time that I experience any problems at this branch. Wow!
Last night I attended the launch of the ‘Platter’s by Diners Club International 2019 South African Wine Guide’ at the Table Bay Hotel. It was an evening of some surprises, and new awards presented! But one thing was consistent – the Mullineux duo of Chris and Andrea lead this country in its consistent wine award performance, winning Winery of the Year for the third time in the 39 year history of the Platter’s Guide. The Sweet Service Award goes to Discovery Vitality, for keeping its promises on offering its physically active members cash back on their purchases of healthy foods at Woolworths and Pick ‘n Pay, on their shopping at Clicks, and at Sportman’s Warehouse. In addition, they have weekly rewards for fitness achievements, none of which I had used until I visited The Point Mall branch earlier this week, when I received a surprise reward of a car wash at Body Wash discounted to R15 instead of the cost of R80. The Sweet Service Award goes to Sorbet at the Point Mall in Sea Point belatedly. I was sent a text message, offering me a discount for their beauty salon services during my birthday month of December, which I accepted gratefully. I received efficient service from three staff members, and one of them even offered to return my Bootleggers coffee cup to the nearby coffee shop.
On Friday New Media Publishing shared the shock news that its Eat Out Editor and head judge Abigail Donnelly is stepping down and away from Eat Out at the end of this month, to concentrate solely on her involvement with TASTE magazine, published for Woolworths, in a new enlarged role of Foods Marketing Creative Manager in addition to her role as Food Editor of the magazine! This comes after a promise made by Eat Out last year that no change in the judging panel is to take place, justifying why it had kept the judging panel anonymous for the first time! Continue reading →
