Monday 25 October 2021, Day 25 of Level 1 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#grateful for a special start to the week; for catching up on work; for a walk to Bakoven; for a pop in at Honest Café, with a new restaurant upstairs; for receiving a Mayor’s Civic Award for service to the community of Camps Bay, not just for picking up litter but also for keeping Ward Councillor Nicola Jowell informed of maintenance and security issues in Camps Bay, I being one of three recipients in Camps Bay, with Theresa Massaglia and Alan Marsh, and only three recipients in Ward 54, which includes Sea Point and Camps Bay, a huge honour; for the great company of recipients we were in; for celebrating with Appeltaart at Labotessa Hotel, so lucky that owner Johan du Plessis came to sit and chat, and he kindly comped the cake as an Award gift; for celebrating with oysters and a glass of bubbly at Fideli’s; for most unusually lusting after a pizza, my first visit to Bacini’s on Kloof, not being able to resist a Tiramisu to take home; and for being happy, healthy and free. 🙏💙

My Blogpost today was about the Absa 2021 Top 10 Olive Oil Awards.

Absa 2021 Top 10 Olive Oil Awards winners announced!

Other recipients of awards were Niels Colesky, whom I met in the lift going to the Award venue, and who entertained me during the ceremony, knowing that Gary Peterson and I are friends, and about my reputation as a controversial restaurant writer, for a De Waterkant Park created by a group of resident volunteers; Andre Viljoen of Woodstock Brewery, who started the Mother Soup Project during Lockdown to feed needy persons, opening a permanent facility in Paarden Eiland soon; Frank Solomon from Hout Bay, who started a safe sea education program in Hout Bay; Stanley Dorman for his contribution to Tourism in Hout Bay; and more, we being 14 recipients in total.

The Corona Virus Lockdown (Level 5), announced by our President Cyril Ramaphosa earlier to commence on 27 March 2020 and to continue until 16 April, subsequently extended to 30 April, lowered to Level 4 from 1 May, lowered to Level 3 from 1 June, lowered to Level 2 from 18 August, lowered to Level 1 from 21 September, and moved back to Adjusted Level 3 from 29 December,  extended to 15 February on 11 January 2021, extended but relaxed on 1 February, and relaxed back to Level 1 on 1 March 2021, moved back to Adjusted Level 2 on 31 May, moved back to level 3 on 16 June, and moved back to Adjusted Level 4 on 28 June, extended by two weeks on 11 July,  returned to Level 3 on 26 July, returned to Level 2 on 13 September, and returned to Level 1 on 1 October is an unprecedented event in my lifetime. I am posting my daily Facebook post to journal this Corona Lockdown Journey, perhaps to serve as material for a future Book.
