Sweet Service Award goes to City of Cape Town; Sour Service Award goes to WP Blood Service!

The Sweet Service Award goes to the City of Cape Town and its Mayor Geordin Hill Lewis, for lighting up the Cape Town City Hall, as a symbol of our city’s solidarity with Ukraine on Wednesday. While the city’s residents would have liked to see the City Hall to be lit for longer than just one day, and ideally our city icon Table Mountain too, it was a symbolic gesture that has made Capetonians proud of its city leadership, given that our national government is supporting Russia, it would seem!

The Sour Service Award goes to the SA Blood Service Long Street and its employee Jenny Zwaan. I donated blood yesterday, having done so for a number of years, and was shocked at how inefficient and slow the service was, especially as I (sadly) was the only blood donor in the 45 minutes spent there. The very efficient and super friendly Lorna was off on sick leave sadly. As I was running late for a meeting up the road, I asked Jenny Zwaan for a plaster to hold the cotton wool, so that I could leave. This unleashed a torrent of abuse from her, spewed forth until I left the building. She inserted the needle, the first time that it has hurt, and I have a bruise on my arm as a result. I called the head office this morning, and a very sympathetic Sister Sybil Jacobs listened to my feedback, and asked me to document the incident for their HR department by email.
