Taxi Sweet Service and ABSA Sour Service Awards!

imageThe Sweet Service Award goes to a taxi service (I did not note its name) based at the airport, which is allowed to tout for business as passengers arrive at Cape Town International. I had planned to use Uber, but had to get the roaming switched off first, and had experienced the problem of where the Uber pick-up point is at an airport when calling Uber in Nice, so was open to be sold the taxi service. I asked whether the service would equal the Uber rate, and he confidently said that he could offer the service for R250, usually charged at R300 or R350! This demonstrates the power Uber has on the taxi industry!

ABA logoThe Sour Service Award goes to ABSA Bank’s Travel insurance third-party supplier DNA Telesales.  My travel agent told me that travel insurance automatically is included as a benefit of paying for the flight ticket with my ABSA Platinum credit card.  I called the call centre, and received terrible service.  The first operator cut me off, and did not return the call, having recorded my cell number.  Marisa was the second operator, and referred to a letter, as if I knew what she was talking about.  It turned out to be an Embassy letter, summarising what the travel insurance covers. I asked her to fax it to me, but she said they cannot fax it, only being able to email it.  It turned out to be a 38 page document!  I was then told to have it printed at the branch when collecting my forex, which is what I did.  I had to go through the whole registration process again, despite having been told by a supervisor that if I quoted my ID number the e-mail would be ready to be sent!  The service is a very poor reflection of ABSA.  I am surprised that ABSA does not inform its clients what benefits its credit card offers!
