*   The second Cape Wine Auction will be held at Boschendal on 14 February 2015.  Last year the inaugural Auction raised R 7 million.

*   Uber launched UberCHOPPER today, partnering with Cape Town Helicopters, bookable on the Uber App.  An UberBLACK vehicle will collect one from one’s destination, and drive one to the V&A Helipad.  Three flight options are available:  Two Oceans, covering both the Atlantic Seaboard and False Bay; Cape Peninsula, covering the V&A down to the Cape of Good Hope; and customised tours such as to the Winelands, whale-watching, and shark-cage diving.  There is a maximum of three passengers per ride. *   The 2014 Sport and Events Tourism Exchange commences in Durban in two weeks. Large events are vital for the tourism industry, it was said, and port and tourism are interlinked in growing and profiling host destinations.  Durban is bidding for the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

*   Graham Beck Blanc de Blancs 2009 has been honoured at the 2014 International Wine & Spirit Competition, winning a trophy for Best Bottle Fermented Sparkling Wine.  Wines from 90 countries were entered. Recently the same wine won a gold medal and was crowned World Champion Cap Classique at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championship. It is one of the most decorated sparkling wines in the world.  Cellarmaster Pieter Ferreira and his team are constantly in search of the perfect bubble.  (received via media release from Waterford Communications)

*   The Fugard Theatre has announced that David Kramer has written a new musical ‘Orpheus in Africa’, which will have its world premiere at the theatre on 28 January.  The musical tells the story of the visit of the Virginia Jubilee Singers from the USA to our country 125 years ago. *   Haskell Vineyards will open its wine estate to an Open Day on 29 November, inviting wine lovers to taste the new Haskell and Dombeya releases, as well as attend a Master Class presented by its Cellar Master Rianie Strydom.  Entrance cost is R20, while the MasterClass costs R150.
