*   Cape Town has made it on board the 80th anniversary Monopoly edition, the only city in our country, and alongside other African cities Marrakech, Algiers, and Djerba in Tunisia.  The announcement was made yesterday, on World Monopoly Day, and reflects an international vote.  The newest Monopoly will be travel-themed. The game has sold 275 million boards in 47 languages.

*   The cycling community is shocked that after 38 years of the Argus Cycle Tour (now named the Cape Town Cycle Tour) being held on the second Sunday of March, it will be held on the first Sunday of March in 2016,  as the City of Cape Town has booked the Cape Town Stadium for another international event over that weekend!  The City is a major sponsor of the Cycle Tour and is trying to position itself as the Events Capital of Cape Town!

*   The local leg of the Rugby Sevens World Series is speculated to be moved from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town from December.   It will be a two-day event held at the Cape Town Stadium.  An announcement is expected today. (Note:  The announcement confirming the move to Cape Town for the next four years has been made since publishing this Blogpost)

*   SA Tourism Country Manager for India, Hanneli Slabber, received the Women Achiever’s Award 2015 in Mumbai on International Women’s Day, recognising her contribution to the travel industry.   Slabber has grown tourism from India, bringing it to 7th on the tourism source market list for our country, with a goal to grow this market to number one by 2020!

*   Franschhoek Wine Valley has received the Service Excellence Award at the Cape Winelands District Municipality Mayoral Tourism Awards, recognising the work done by the tourism bureau in promoting the village.  Solms-Delta won the Best Tourism-Related Event award for its ATKV-Oesfees, while La Motte won the Wine Tourism Destination of the Year Award.
