South African Restaurants make the World Culinary Awards shortlist, including Utopia Cape Town!

 

For the second year running the World Culinary Awards are being held, celebrating and rewarding excellence. It is a sister event of World Travel Awards.

The 2021 finalists of the World’s Culinary Awards for the African and all other Continents have been announced, an award program which has stretched over the year, culminating in the announcement of the winners on 7 November.

Some of South Africa’s Best restaurants have been nominated, competing against the top Restaurants in Africa. These include Utopia Cape Town,  Wolfgat in Paternoster, Chefs Warehouse at Tintswalo Atlantic, Himitsu at Camps Bay Retreat, and Life Grand Café, all from the Western Cape. Continue reading →

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for the arrival of Spring, finally, what a beauty of a day at 21C 🌞; for a glorious day; for meeting Johnny Nortje and walking to Camps Bay, dropping off a sample pack of Dilmah Teas at Firefly Café, to try out and to use until they get their tea order delivered; for a fabulous lunch with Johnny at Tindlovu Restaurant in the Camps Bay Promenade, meeting up with Chef Chris Papayannes (whom I’d last seen at the Newton Johnson Restaurant about 6 years ago), and now Group GM of the 10 Tindlovu restaurants around the country; for a drive with Johnny to Blouberg, walking along the Beachfront; for a second Camps Bay walk, walking with Lisa Hayden whom I bumped into when I was actually heading for Bakoven; for the City of Cape Town having spare electricity, which prevented us from being Loadshed at 18h00, coming off scot-free today; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Triple Three gin trio top three best seller in SA, ‘spiritual’ side of Blaauwklippen, new Distillers Cut to be launched!

In just over twelve months of its launch, Triple Three hand-crafted premium gin made at Blaauwklippen in Stellenbosch has become one of the top three best-selling local gins in our country, and is regarded as a world-class gin. I attended a tasting of the three Triple Three gins at OpenWine on Monday evening, and of their brand new but not yet launched Triple Three Distillers Cut gin last week, at a Blaauwklippen Zinfandel tasting.
