Cleaning Camps Bay: giving back to the community!

I’ve been called many things in my life, but the one that I like the most is that I’m ‘The cleaning lady of Camps Bay’, referring to my daily walks in Camps Bay and Bakoven, wearing a gardening glove to pick up litter along the way.

Atlantic Sun reporter Shahied Joseph wanted to honour women in the Camps Bay Community, and had heard about my litter cleaning, which I have done over the past two and a half years. Continue reading →

Sunday 2 May 2021, Day 63 of Level 1 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a very relaxed catch-up with myself Sunday; for it being surprisingly hot today, at 27C; for a power walk through my secret Bakoven lanes, scoring 300 Discovery points, feeling good in making up for zero points 😱 yesterday; for finishing off the litter hotspot of yesterday, filling a garbage bag with all the cardboard boxes that had remained; for having two Camps Bay brothers Ben and Troy McWilliam assist me in cleaning up litter at the Tidal Pool, doing this for their Rondebosch High school community project, lovely to see them so eager, and the luck that there were fewer picnickers and hence less litter, despite the heat; and for being happy, healthy, and free. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 50 of Level 3 Adjusted, 14 February 2021

Sunday 14 February 2021, Valentine’s Day ❤️❤️❤️, Day 50 of Level 3 Adjusted, Day 345 of Lockdown 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a most fabulous Valentine’s Day, getting dressed up for it, and spending an hour at Utopia Cape Town, interacting with romantic guests celebrating their love ❤️; for the amazing support I received when cleaning up Camps Bay late this afternoon, looking terrible with litter everywhere, having learner Marc join me, and an amazing surprise that two adult picnickers and two cousin boys helped us clean up near where they were picnicking, the little boys being particularly happy to bring us litter and endless bottles of alcohol empties, filling four garbage bags in an hour, there was so much; for the rain overnight and morning ☔️; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →

Corona Virus: Lockdown Journey Journal, Day 49 of Level 3, 19 July 2020.

Sunday 19 July 2020, Day 49 of Level 3, after 66 days of a level 5 and 4 😷

Corona Gratitude 🙏

#Grateful for a summer day at 21C, everyone happy, with a spring in their step, and Camps Bay experiencing a second boom day, just like a normal weekend summer day, with a traffic jam since midday, and still continuing, and our first picnickers visiting our suburb, feeling a lot like pre-Lockdown days; for minimal litter on my walk to Clifton, enjoying this walk, not having been here for more than a week; for a second shorter walk to Woolies, always happy to spot a bargain, seeming to become cheaper than our Pick n Pay; for a long sleep last night and the indulgence of a lovely snooze on the terrace, digesting Vit D; for my cute Minsky playing carguard from her perch on the terrace, as the cars inch through Camps Bay; for quick service from Camps Bay CSI; for another lovely concert by Daniel Hope of Hope@Home performed with the Slovenian Signum Saxophone Quartet in Bonn this evening; and for being happy and healthy. 🙏💙 Continue reading →
