\"\"<\/a>Our country had been Loadshedding for the past eleven years, and it is almost second nature by now to plan our day according to the timing of the almost daily Loadshedding. Following on from our most severe Loadshedding in December 2019, at Stage 6, municipalities in our country have now been tasked to prepare for Loadshedding up to Stage 8, BusinessTech reported yesterday. <\/p>\n

Many municipalities did not have Stage 6 schedules, and were caught by surprise when Stage 6 Loadshedding was announced out of the blue. In the past Stage 4 was the most severe Loadshedding experienced, affecting locals three times a day, twice during the day time and once during the night, in most cases. <\/p>\n

Stage 8 Loadshedding requires 40% of the electricity load to be shed, working out to 12 hours per day on average!<\/p>\n

While our country may not have to suffer this extreme, energy experts warn that Stage 6 may become a regular occurrence, reflecting the \u2018grim picture of ageing, under-maintained, and stressed power plants\u2019.  <\/i>A report I saw last week reflected that ESKOM would like to institute daily Stage 2 Loadshedding.<\/p>\n

in a report just seen on Fin24, ESKOM denies that it will implement Stage 8 Loadshedding:<\/p>\n

\u2018Eskom<\/i> has denied telling municipalities that stage 8 load shedding is imminent, describing media articles claiming this to be “erroneous and incorrect”.<\/i><\/p>\n

In a statement on Tuesday, the power utility said that while it has developed contingency plans for a severe supply constraints this does not mean that it is planning to implement stage 8 load shedding, which would see up to 8 000MW shed from the national grid.<\/i><\/p>\n

“The likelihood of reaching Stage 8 is low,” it said.<\/i><\/p>\n

“When Stage 6 load shedding was implemented in December, not all metros or municipalities had published their extended load shedding schedules,” said Eskom in a statement. “The Association of Municipal Electricity Utilities therefore engaged most of its members to confirm their compliance to the code \u2013 i.e. whether stages 5 to 8 had been published by those Metro\u2019s that had not yet done so.”\u2018<\/i><\/p>\n

Whichever Stage we may be subjected to day by day, the reality is clear: Loadshedding is here to stay. <\/p>\n
