\"\"Due to the Corona Virus Lockdown in our country, the 2020 SA Dairy Championships Award Ceremony was held virtually for the first time in the 187 year existence of the Championships. Lactalis SA\u2019s Pr\u00e9sident Extra Mature Cheddar Cheese was named the 2020 South African Dairy Product of the Year, winning against 974 other brands from 74 manufacturers. A total of 23 brands received the Qualit\u00e9 mark of excellence of top achievement (see list below), and 107 were named SA Champion. <\/p>\n

The SA Dairy Championships is the largest dairy competition on the African continent. Judging for the 2020 competition took place late in February, and the virtual Awards ceremony was held on 26 March, the day before Lockdown. Dairy products were evaluated in 100 different classes. Eleven new dairy product suppliers joined the Championships in presenting their products for evaluation this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is the third time in five years we have won the Product of the Year award for one of our cheeses<\/i>,\u201d said Marek Warzywoda, General Manager of Lactalis SA (LSA). \u201cI am so proud of the LSA team. It is a clear indication of just how high the quality of our products is and how dedicated and diligent our teams are.\u00a0We would like to thank Agri-Expo for another fantastic and well-organised competition and for upholding such high standards for the local dairy industry.\u00a0Awards, in particular the Product of the Year accolades, are such incredible testaments to the LSA team\u2019s ongoing ambition to deliver quality products.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n

The chief judge of the SA Dairy Championships, dairy expert Alan Fourie, said that to produce an exceptional cheddar that can be matured for longer than 10 months is in itself a challenge: \u2018The Pr\u00e9sident Extra\u00a0Mature Cheddar is full rounded with\u00a0a sweet, nutty profile that melts in the\u00a0mouth. Truly an exceptional product which deserves this award as Product of the Year\u2019.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
