From having heard that the village was so quiet, and that many restaurants had closed down, I was pleasantly surprised to find the village bursting with excitement about new restaurants about to open in October, and later this year. Well-known Paul Duncan curated the decor items and Petro Blommaert the food and beverage offering. Both were in the shop when I visited it. \u00a0A must-visit.<\/p>\n<p>#. \u00a0<u><b>Grande Provence<\/b> <\/u>\u00a0 The wine estate has opened a <b>Deli<\/b> too, with preserves, olive products, cheeses (sadly no Dalewood Fromage), beverages,\u00a0cakes and sweet treats, flowers, and decor items. The service from the cashier was extremely poor, and the credit card machine did not work, despite it being a \u2018Cashless Estate\u2019, according to its website! The Restaurant offers Dinner from Friday\u2019s to Sundays, and Lunch on Saturdays and Sundays.<\/p>\n<p>#. <u>Place Vendome<\/u> : In this centre at the entrance to Franschhoek the <u>Good Food &amp; Co <\/u>has been keeping going, with a loyal local following, and consistent marketing presence. It is to get two neighbours: <b>Fork<\/b> (moving from Cape Town) is taking over the Beleef space, which has been standing empty for about two years) while the former Ziggy clothes shop space is to become an <b>Indian restaurant,<\/b> a former male chef of the former Marigold opening here.<\/p>\n<p>#. \u00a0<b><u>Tapasco<\/u><\/b> has opened where The Village Tart used to be, serving Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.<\/p>\n<p>#. \u00a0<b><u>Entr\u00e9e<\/u><\/b>\u00a0<b><u>Restaurant<\/u><\/b> has opened next to Terbodore on the outskirts of the village, in a building \u00a0which housed Village Grill &amp; Butcher, and is owned by Chefs Archie and Dominique, previously of Caf\u00e9 BonBon. Serve Lunch and Dinner Monday to Saturday, and Lunch on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p># \u00a0 <b><u>Hussar Grill<\/u><\/b>: Temporarily closed.<\/p>\n<p># \u00a0<u><b>Woolworths WCaf\u00e9:<\/b><\/u> Temporarily closed<\/p>\n<p># \u00a0<b><u>Epice<\/u><\/b> is temporarily closed until the La Colombe restaurants have rearranged themselves in Franschhoek (see below):<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Existing restaurants are open and operating as follows:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><u>La Petite Colombe:<\/u> The restaurant is based in Le Quartier Fran\u00e7ais currently, but is to move to Leeu Estates in November, opening there in a stand-alone building on 6 November. Lunch Thursday to Sunday, Dinner Wednesday to Sunday. Epice will move into the current La Petite Colombe space after the latter\u2019s move to Leeu Estates.<\/p>\n<p><u>Prot\u00e9g\u00e9<\/u> : Serve Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner &#8211; operating days of the week not on the website, and the phone call to enquire was cut off!<\/p>\n<p><u>Le Coin Fran\u00e7ais<\/u>: Currently serves Lunch Friday to Sunday, and Dinner on Fridays and Saturdays.<\/p>\n<p><u>Le Ch\u00eane:<\/u> Based inside the Leeu Estates Hotel, the restaurant will reopen as soon as the Hotel reopens later this year.<\/p>\n<p><u>Arkeste<\/u>: Chef Richard Carstens\u2019 restaurant is open for lunch from Thursday to Sunday, and for dinner from Thursday to Saturday.<\/p>\n<p><u>Pierneef a La Motte<\/u>: Open Thursdays to Sundays.<\/p>\n<p><u>Leopards Leap Rotisserie Restaurant:<\/u> Open for Lunch Thursdays to Sundays<\/p>\n<p><u>Le Petite Manoir:\u00a0<\/u>Breakfast Tuesday to Sunday. Lunch Tuesday to Sunday. Dinner Tuesday to Saturday.<\/p>\n<p><u>Chefs Warehouse at Maison:<\/u>\u00a0 Open Friday to Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><u>Roca<\/u>: \u00a0Open Daily except Wednesdays<\/p>\n<p><u>Marilyn\u2019s<\/u>: Open Daily except Wednesdays<\/p>\n<p><u>Bovine<\/u>: Open Thursdays &#8211; Mondays<\/p>\n<p><u>French Connection Bistro<\/u>: Open Daily for Lunch and Dinner.<\/p>\n<p><u>Reuben\u2019s<\/u>: Open Daily for Lunch and Dinner<\/p>\n<p><u>Foliage<\/u> : \u00a0Open for Lunch and Dinner from Wednesdays. No further details on the website.<\/p>\n<p><u>Orangerie at Le Lude<\/u>: Open for Lunch from Tuesday to Sunday. What a treat to be recognised by its Manager Jacobus Lochner, with mask and all, and my last visit being about two years ago. What lovely news to hear of Chef Nicolene Barrow\u2019s engagement, and I had a few minutes with the radiant chef, looking transformed. I ordered the Special, the sirloin steak served with Caf\u00e9 de Paris butter, fine onion rings creatively presented on top of a green salad with vinaigrette, aioli, thin fries presented in a <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-208173\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chrisvonulmenstein.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8ACC3242-0249-49C9-AB0F-B0D97029DFA2.jpeg?resize=225%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chrisvonulmenstein.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8ACC3242-0249-49C9-AB0F-B0D97029DFA2.jpeg?resize=225%2C300&amp;ssl=1 225w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chrisvonulmenstein.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8ACC3242-0249-49C9-AB0F-B0D97029DFA2.jpeg?resize=600%2C800&amp;ssl=1 600w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chrisvonulmenstein.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8ACC3242-0249-49C9-AB0F-B0D97029DFA2.jpeg?resize=150%2C200&amp;ssl=1 150w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.chrisvonulmenstein.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/8ACC3242-0249-49C9-AB0F-B0D97029DFA2.jpeg?w=720&amp;ssl=1 720w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/>copper pot, and mustard, at R165.
