The Netflix award-winning documentary was launched to great acclaim two months ago, going viral, documenting the year that Foster spent in 2010 diving in an underwater kelp forest off the Simon\u2019s Town Coast in False Bay in Cape Town. He spotted an octopus, becoming enthralled with her, visiting her hiding spot and tracking her movements daily. \u00a0The documentary shares how a relationship of trust developed between the octopus and Foster, and what impact she had on his life.<\/p>\n

Pyjama sharks are the biggest threat to the octopus, and in one battle with a shark, she loses an arm, which does grow back. The documentary ends on a sad note, when she lays hundreds of eggs, and dies, a natural evolutionary occurrence for female octopuses. It took Foster ten years to make the documentary. The experience taught him humility, compassion, and \u2018she opened my mind to just how complex and precious wild creatures are\u2019.\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n
