The stream at the Tidal Pool was full of weeds, trapping litter, and in our hour together this morning we managed to remove all of them plus the litter. This afternoon I showed them the Bakoven beaches and park which they need to clean. They are full of energy today. Jared Stein of Camps Bay Hardware kindly donated a spade, which helped greatly today in removing the weeds.<\/p>\n<p>I popped in at the Camps Bay Police station, for the launch of the Crime Victim Counseling Unit, tastefully decorated and with a lovely mural in the Adult room. A Child room has been created too.<\/p>\n<p>It was good to see a big film shoot at the Tidal Pool, a TV commercial for an international nappy brand.<\/p>\n<p>I was told that Absolute Pets was running a Black Friday special of 20% off, so I couldn\u2019t miss out on buying two bags of cat food as well as some treats. I\u2019d seen at Pick n Pay in town yesterday that they had a Black Friday special on Smarties, 33% off, so I bought my monthly stash. I went back for another box, but they were sold out at the Camps Bay store. I was promised the next box arriving, at the Black Friday price by their very nice manager \ud83d\ude4f\ud83d\udc99. It was so sweet when he shared that customers tell him that his store\u2019s prices are becoming more expensive than those at Woolies, something I\u2019ve been picking up too. \ud83d\ude31<\/p>\n<p>Whitespace Creative Owner Tania and I have been trying to get together for at least a year, if not longer, and then Covid arrived. Her design agency regularly hosts speakers to stretch her knowledge as well as that of interested persons in the industry, inviting us for two talks by market researchers, Angela Hutchinson of UX Strategy and Karlien Kriegler of HelloAra. Tania did not know that my second career was Market Research, one spanning 16 years long ago.<\/p>\n<p>Dealing with customers of my client, I was reminded by the talks :<\/p>\n<p>#. That Covid and Lockdown have changed everything. We cannot think that we know our customers, or that they have been unaffected by the pandemic. Even if we use the brands, we may not be typical users. We are unlikely to know our customers since Lockdown started 8 months ago.<\/p>\n<p>#. The customer must be placed in the middle, being the focus, marketing and product development being Customer Centric<\/p>\n<p>#. The customer is shopping more online than in-store now.<\/p>\n<p>#. Customers want approval that they have made the correct purchase and brand choice.<\/p>\n<p>#. We were encouraged to learn more about our customers and industry., reading Trend Reports, talking to customers one to one, and shopping with customers to observe their shopping behavior. Interesting was to see what Google searches show about a product or a brand, searches predicting future trends for the product category.<\/p>\n<p>#. Thinking out of the box is even more imperative than before.<\/p>\n<p>#. Design is about how things work, not how they look<\/p>\n<p>#. One must stand in the customers\u2019 shoes to understand them from a brand and marketing perspective.<\/p>\n<p>#.
