\"\"<\/a>The UK removed a number of countries, including Kenya, Pakistan, Egypt, and The Maldives, from its Red List last week, but South Africa was not one the nine countries benefiting from the travel relaxation, reports Daily Maverick.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

SA Tourism Services Association (SATSA) CEO David Frost spoke out harshly, describing the decision by the UK to not include our country as \u2018scandalous and completely unacceptable<\/i>\u2019. <\/p>\n

Frost described the decision of the UK Government as being based on outdated Covid-19 case numbers and \u2018bad interpretation of the science\u2019. \u00a0<\/i>He surmised that the decision is still linked to the Beta mutation of the Covid Virus, which was associated with South Africa in December, and was called\u00a0such. Frost was particularly annoyed about Kenya being removed from the Red List and our country not.<\/p>\n

Tourists from the UK wishing to visit our country have to undergo a 10 day quarantine when they return to the UK, making it unattractive for them to visit our country, a loss of R26 million Tourism revenue per day, SATSA estimates, the UK being the largest Tourism source market for South Africa, 430000 Britons having visited our country in 2019.<\/p>\n

The cost of a 10 day quarantine in a quarantine hotel, two PCR tests, and three meals a day, is R35000!<\/p>\n

The USA also includes South Africa in its List of 33 \u2018forbidden source countries<\/i>\u2019, with such countries as all European Schengen countries, the UK, Brazil, China, India,\u00a0and Iran.<\/p>\n
