* \u00a0\u00a0Luke Dale-Roberts,<\/strong> <\/strong>Eat Out<\/strong> Top Chef, is to open\u00a0a real test kitchen, called\u00a0The Kitchen of Dreams<\/strong>, a private experimental place to develop new recipes, at the Old Biscuit Mill<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Col\u2019Cacchio<\/strong> has opened a new outlets in Westlake, and a new one is coming in Claremont too.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0A new\u00a0<\/strong>Vida \u00e9\u00a0Caffe<\/strong> has\u00a0opened on Prestwich Street, and a\u00a0new branch\u00a0is to open on Maindean Place in Claremont, and one in the new Wembley Square 2 development in July. \u00a0Two more branches are planned for Mauritius, it is said.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Madame\u2019s on Napier<\/strong> has opened in De Waterkant<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Richard\u2019s Supper Stage & Bistro<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> has opened on Main\/Glengariff Roads in Sea Point, as a dinner theatre, and Bistro restaurant, owned by Richard Loring and Roland Seidel<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Honest Chocolate<\/strong> is opening a second outlet with a \u2018production kitchen\u2019 in the Woodstock Industrial Centre<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Fez<\/strong> has reopened as a nightclub on Friday, to be called\u00a0Sideshow<\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>West Street Caf\u00e9<\/strong> has opened in the new Woodstock Foundry, owned by Chef Alan West<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Moyo<\/strong> is to open where the Paulaner Bra\u00fchaus was in the V & A Waterfront in summer. \u00a0It has taken over the tearoom at Kirstenbosch too.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Josephine\u2019s Cookhouse<\/strong> has opened in Newlands, belonging to the Societi Bistro owners<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Vovo Telo<\/a><\/strong> has opened in the V&A Waterfront, in half of the original Vaughn Johnson shop. They have branches in Port Elizabeth, Pretoria, and Johannesburg already. \u00a0The name is Portuguese, and means \u2018Grandfather\u2019s place\u2019.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 <\/strong>Orinoco<\/strong><\/a> has opened on Bree Street, serving Mexican and Venezuelan food<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Keenwa has opened the <\/strong>P.I.S.C.O Bar<\/strong> above its restaurants, open Thursdays – Saturdays from 5 pm<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Okamai<\/strong> Japanese restaurant has opened at Glenwood wine estate in Franschhoek<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Cavalli<\/strong> <\/strong>restaurant is said to open on the stud farm on R44, between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, this year or next<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Dorpstraat Deli<\/strong> has opened in Stellenbosch, where Cupcake used to be.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 <\/strong><\/strong>De Oude Bank Bakkeri<\/a>j<\/strong> <\/strong>has opened a bar, serving Bartinney wines, and craft beers.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Slug & Lettuce<\/strong> is to open where Beads was on Church Street in Stellenbosch<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Stables<\/strong> at Vergelegen Bistro has opened as a lunch restaurant in Somerset West. \u00a0Its Lady Phillips Restaurant is being given a make-over by Christo Barnard, and will open in June with a new name called\u00a0<\/strong>The Vergelegen Restaurant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Chef Jonathan Heath has left Indochine, and will be opening a restaurant at\u00a0<\/strong>Coopmanshuijs<\/strong> on Dorp Street in August.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Johan van Schalkwyk has left the Stone Kitchen at Dunstone Winery, and has opened his own restaurant\u00a0<\/strong>Twist Some More<\/strong> in Wellington.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Chef Bjorn Dingemans\u00a0is to open up\u00a0<\/strong>The Millhouse Kitchen<\/strong> restaurant on Lourensford<\/strong> wine estate in Somerset West in July.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Grilleri<\/strong> (ex-Mediterrea) has closed down, and Chef Shane (ex-La Vierge) is now heading the re-named\u00a0<\/strong>La Pentola<\/strong> restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Cassis Paris Salon de th\u00e9<\/a><\/strong> has opened in the Gardens’ Centre, on the first level.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0Melissa’s<\/strong> has opened at Somerset Mall in Somerset West<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Ali Baba Kebab <\/strong>(<\/strong>renamed from\u00a0Laila<\/strong>)<\/strong> <\/strong>has opened as a small beef and lamb kebab take-away and sit-down outlet, next door to Codfather in Camps Bay<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Gibson’s Gourmet Burger and Smoked Ribs<\/strong> has opened as a 70-seater restaurant in the V&A Waterfront, taking part of the Belthazar space. Owned by the Belthazar\/Balducci group.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Giorgio Nava is said to be re-opening his Down South Food Bar,<\/strong> previously on Long Street, in the Riverside Centre in Rondebosch<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Tamboers Winkel<\/a><\/strong> has opened on De Lorentz Street, just off Kloof Street, Gardens\/Tamboerskloof * \u00a0 Ou Meul Bakery<\/strong> from Riviersonderend is said to be opening a bakery in Long Street<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Deluxe Coffeeworks<\/strong> is opening a roastery to service all its outlets, at the previous German Club and Roodehek Restaurant<\/a>.<\/p>\n

* The Deli on the Square<\/strong> is to open at Frater Square in Paarl in July.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 David Higgs (ex Rust en Vrede) is opening a new 30 seater restaurant in The Saxon<\/strong> in Johannesburg.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Big Route Top Gourmet Pizzeria<\/strong> has opened on Main Road, Green Point, next door to Woolworths, serving 52 different pizzas, salads and cr\u00eapes.<\/p>\n

Restaurant Closures<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Valora<\/strong><\/a><\/strong> on Loop Street has closed down<\/p>\n

* <\/strong><\/strong>Vanilla<\/strong> in the Cape Quarter has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Toro Wine and Aperitif Bar<\/a><\/strong> in De Waterkant has closed down<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Gesellig<\/strong> on Regent Road in Sea Point is standing empty, closed down or undergoing a major renovation<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Sapphire<\/strong> has closed down in Camps Bay<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Caveau<\/strong> at Josephine’s Mill has closed<\/p>\n

down and the Bree Street venue is up for rent<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 High Level Restaurant<\/strong> in Bo-Kaap has closed down<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Caveau<\/strong> on Bree Street and Gourmet Burger <\/strong>on Shortmarket Street, belonging to the same owners, have been closed down by their bank.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Sabarosa<\/strong> in Bakoven has closed down.<\/p>\n

Restaurant staff\/venue changes<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0 Il Cappero<\/a><\/strong> has moved from Barrack Street to Fairway Street in Camps Bay.<\/p>\n

*\u00a0 <\/strong>Table Thirteen<\/strong> <\/a>has reduced in size in Green Point and will open in Paarden Eiland later this year. * \u00a0\u00a0Chef Fred Faucheux is the new Executive Chef at\u00a0Nobu<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Piroschka\u2019s Kitchen<\/a><\/strong> has moved from Bree Street to Waterkant Street, De Waterkant<\/p>\n

* \u00a0MasterChef SA finalist\u00a0Guy Clark<\/a>, who was eliminated in episode 9, has started as a chef at the\u00a0<\/strong>Madame Zingara<\/strong> restaurant group, at Caf\u00e9 Mozart and the Bombay Bicycle Club.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Rotisserie 360\u00b0 on Bree Street has changed its name to\u00a0<\/strong>Caf\u00e9 Frank<\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Salt Deli has changed its name to\u00a0Salt Caf\u00e9<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong> * \u00a0<\/strong> The\u00a0V&A Waterfront <\/strong>Food Court<\/strong> is closed for renovations until November. \u00a0A sign outside the construction area lists the following businesses moving into or returning to the area: Primi Express, Anat, Carnival, N\u00fcr Halaal, Royal Bavarian Bakery, KFC, Boost Juice, Simply Asia, Steers, Debonairs, Subway, Marcel\u2019s, and Haagan Dazs. \u00a0Nando’s is also opening.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Darren Badenhorst is the new Executive Chef at\u00a0Grande Provence<\/a>.<\/strong> Chef Darren Roberts has left for a new appointment in the Seychelles.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Alton van Biljon has been appointed as Restaurant Manager at Haute Cabrier<\/strong>e.<\/strong><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>Ryan’s Kitchen<\/strong> is now offering cooking classes on Friday mornings, starting on 1 June<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Shaun Schoeman of Fyndraai Restaurant<\/strong><\/a> at Solms Delta has the amazing honour to be working at Noma in Copenhagen for two weeks in July. \u00a0He also shared that Fyndraai will move to another building on the wine estate in November, and will offer fine dining. \u00a0The current restaurant will serve light lunches and picnics.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0<\/strong>Taste South Africa<\/a><\/strong>, belonging to Cybercellar, has closed down in The Yard off the main road. They have Tweeted that they are looking for new premises.<\/p>\n

*\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Reuben\u2019s<\/a><\/strong>, <\/strong>which was said to be moving its Franschhoek branch, appears to be staying at his existing venue, despite having bought another restaurant venue off the main road close to Place Vendome. \u00a0He is also thought to open a restaurant in his home on Akademie Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Emile Fortuin has been appointed as Executive Chef at\u00a0Reuben\u2019s Robertson<\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Sommelier Josephine Gutentoft has left Grande Roche, <\/strong>and starts at<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/span>Makaron at Majeka House<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/span> <\/span><\/strong><\/span>in July, F&B Manager Chretien Ploum having left<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Reserve will change its name to Reserve Brasserie<\/strong> next month. Seelan Sundoo, ex Grand Caf\u00e9\u00a0Camps Bay and ex La Perla, is the new chef.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Haiku<\/strong> does not enforce the minimum 4 star order requirement in winter.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Caf\u00e9 Dijon<\/strong> is closing its restaurant on Plein Street in Stellenbosch later in June, and re-opening in the Rockwell Centre in Green Point, Cape Town, where Camil Haas once had his Bouillabaisse restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Andrew Mendes from closed down Valora is now at Nelson’s Eye<\/strong> restaurant, where they are setting up a lunch section and cocktail bar upstairs.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Miss K Food<\/strong> closed down in Green Point, now ex-owner Kerstin going on a well-deserved break after 5 years. The new owner Maurizio Porro, with his chef Ernesto, has kept the staff and furniture of Miss K, and most of her menu initially. By September they will have transformed themselves into an Italian fine-dining restaurant to be called Guilia’s<\/strong> Food Caf\u00e9\u00a0Restaurant<\/strong>, and will be open from 8h00, as well as for dinner.<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Rob and Nicky Hahn have left Proviant in Paarl, and now run eat @ Simonsvlei<\/strong> on the Old Paarl Road<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Karl Lambour is the new General Manager of Grande Provence<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Virgil Kahn is the new head chef at Indochine<\/strong> at Delaire Graff<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 La Motte is said to be working on a relaunch of a restaurant it owns in Somerset West.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Having bought the farm about 18 months ago, Antonij Rupert Wines<\/strong> has taken over the Graham Beck Franschhoek property. They will re-open the tasting room in October, initially offering all its Antonij Rupert, Cape of Good Hope, Terra del Capo, and Protea wines to taste. \u00a0They are renovating the manor house, to which the Antonij Rupert and Cape of Good Hope wines will be moved for tasting at a later stage.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Marco, who opened Rocca<\/strong> at Dieu Donn\u00e9 in Franschhoek, has returned to Durban.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Orphanage<\/strong> is expanding into a property at its back, opening on Orphan Street, in December, creating a similar second bar downstairs, and opening Orphanage Club<\/strong> upstairs, with 1920’s style music by live performers<\/p>\n
