Restaurant Openings<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Merchants Caf\u00e9<\/strong> has\u00a0opened on Long Street, opposite Merchants on Long, both belonging to Hanneli Rupert.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Luke Dale-Roberts, <\/strong>Eat Out<\/strong> Top Chef at The Test Kitchen, has opened a real test kitchen, called\u00a0<\/strong>The Kitchen of Dreams<\/strong>, a private experimental place to develop new recipes, at the Old Biscuit Mill. \u00a0He is also\u00a0opening a pop-up\u00a0Pot Luck Club\u00a0in Swiss ski resort Verbier, at the Hotel Farinet, from 8 December – April, to be run by him, his chef Nicolas Wilkinson, and front of house Selena Afnan-Holmes.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Col\u2019Cacchio<\/strong> has opened a new outlet in Westlake, and new ones are coming in Claremont and Hermanus.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 New\u00a0<\/strong>Vida \u00e9\u00a0Caffe<\/strong> new branches are to open on Maindean Place in Claremont, at the new Wembley Square 2 development, at The Paddocks, Groote Schuur, and Roeland Street. \u00a0Two more branches are planned for Mauritius.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Honest Chocolate<\/strong> is opening a second outlet, a\u00a0\u2018production kitchen<\/em>\u2019 in the Woodstock Industrial Centre<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Cavalli<\/strong> <\/strong>restaurant is said to open on the stud farm on R44, between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, this year or next<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Stable<\/strong>s<\/strong> at Vergelegen Bistro<\/strong> has opened as a lunch restaurant in Somerset West. \u00a0Its Lady Phillips Restaurant is being given a make-over by Christo Barnard, and will open with a new name <\/strong>Camphors at <\/strong><\/strong>Vergelegen<\/strong><\/a>. The new chef will be PJ Vadas, previously of The Roundhouse in Camps Bay.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Chef Johan van Schalkwyk has left the Stone Kitchen at Dunstone Winery, and has opened his own restaurant\u00a0Twist Some More<\/strong> in Wellington.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Rotisserie at<\/strong> Leopard’s Leap<\/strong> has opened.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Burger King<\/strong> will open its first South African branch in Cape Town next year!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0A coffee shop, chocolaterie, bar, and fashion boutique will open in a 3-storey building on Long Street in February, as yet unnamed.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Beer Bar <\/strong>is to open on Long Street<\/p>\n

* Eataria <\/strong>is to open on Long Street<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Portuguese restaurant Alfama<\/strong> has opened on Bree Street<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Shimmy Beach Club<\/strong> is to open in the V&A Waterfront in December, involving Chef Seelan Sundoo.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>McDonald’s<\/strong> is opening new branches in Cape Town, in Wynberg, Lansdowne, and Claremont<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Red Table Restaurant at Nederburg<\/a> <\/strong>has opened for lunches Wednesday – Sunday<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Wilderer Distillery and La Grapperie<\/strong> at Spice Route restaurant are opening in Spice Route wine estate, in addition to their existing location<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Antipasto Bar<\/strong> has opened at the new Anthonij Rupert Wines tasting room, where Graham Beck used to be, outside Franschhoek<\/p>\n

* \u00a0Luke Dale Roberts is continuing his expansion trail, and is opening in the current Long Street Caf\u00e9 next year.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Mischu: The Coffee Showroom<\/strong> has opened on Regent Road in in Sea Point.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Urban Caf\u00e9 Sushi & Asian Cuisine<\/strong> to open in the old Cape Quarter.<\/p>\n

Restaurant Closures<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0The Kove<\/strong> in Camps Bay has closed down, its space has become part of sister restaurant Zenzero<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Sinnfull<\/strong> has closed down in Sea Point and Camps Bay<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Liam Tomlin Food<\/strong> has closed down in Franschhoek<\/p>\n

* Planet Green Salad<\/strong> has closed down<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Illyria<\/strong> in the Eikestad Mall has closed down<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Freedom Hill Restaurant<\/strong> has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Wale Rose Lifestyle<\/strong> has closed down in Bo-Kaap.<\/p>\n

Restaurant staff\/venue changes<\/span><\/p>\n

*\u00a0\u00a0Table Thirteen <\/a>has reduced in size in Green Point and will open in Paarden Eiland later this year.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0The <\/strong>V&A Waterfront <\/strong>Food Court<\/strong> is closed for renovations until November. \u00a0A sign outside the construction area lists the following businesses moving into or returning to the area: Primi Express, Anat, Carnival, N\u00fcr Halaal, Royal Bavarian Bakery, KFC, Boost Juice, Simply Asia, Steers, Debonairs, Subway, Marcel\u2019s, and Haagan Dazs. \u00a0Nando\u2019s is also opening.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Fyndraai Restaurant<\/strong><\/a> will move to another building on the wine estate in November, and will offer fine dining. \u00a0The current restaurant will serve light lunches and picnics.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Andrew Mendes from ex-Valora is now at\u00a0Nelson\u2019s Eye<\/strong> restaurant, where they are setting up a lunch section and cocktail bar upstairs.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Giulia\u2019s<\/strong> <\/strong>Food Caf\u00e9\u00a0Restaurant<\/strong> has opened where Miss K was on Main Road, Green Point. Now serve Italian-style lunch and dinner, but have retained some Miss K breakfast and pastry items.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Having bought the farm about 18 months ago,\u00a0<\/strong>Antonij Rupert Wines<\/strong> has taken over the Graham Beck Franschhoek property. They will re-open the tasting room, initially offering all its Antonij Rupert, Cape of Good Hope, Terra del Capo, and Protea wines to taste. \u00a0They are renovating the manor house, to which the Antonij Rupert and Cape of Good Hope wines will be moved for tasting at a later stage.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Orphanage<\/strong> is expanding into a property at its back, opening on Orphan Street, in December, creating a similar second bar downstairs, and opening\u00a0<\/strong>Orphanage Club<\/strong> upstairs, with 1920\u2019s style music by live performers<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 MondeVino Restaurant at Montecasino in Johannesburg, the MasterChef SA prize for the next two years, is to be renamed Aarya,<\/strong> and is to be run by Chef Deena Naidoo from November onwards.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0<\/strong> Bizerca<\/strong> has moved into the ex-Gourmet Burger space in Heritage Square on Shortmarket Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Marcellino’s has changed its name to EuroHaus,<\/strong> with a Zerban\u2019s style restaurant added to the bakery.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Cr\u00eape et Cidre has closed down in Franschhoek. <\/strong>Gideon\u2019s The Famous Pancake House<\/strong> has opened in its space.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Brampton<\/strong> winetasting bar on Church Street, Stellenbosch has trebled its current size<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chris Marais is the new chef at Blaauwklippen<\/strong>, previously with The Oyster Box<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Phil Alcock is the new chef at\u00a0<\/strong>Two Oceans Restaurant <\/strong>at Cape Point, having previously worked at The Cape Grace, The Showroom, maze, and more<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Albert van der Loo, previously with Le Coq and Dieu Donne restaurants in Franschhoek, is the new Head Chef at <\/strong><\/strong>Oude Werf Hotel<\/strong> in Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Emile Fortuin, who was at Reuben’s Robertson for a very short time, has left and moved to\u00a0<\/strong>Tokara<\/strong><\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Camil and Ingrid Haas<\/strong> (ex Bouillabaisse and Camil’s) have returned to Franschhoek, with the view to get involved in a restaurant<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Cheyne Morrisby<\/strong> has left\u00a0the\u00a0Mantella Group<\/strong> (owners of Blake’s and ex-Opal Lounge), and is starting his own pop-up restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Tiaan van Greunen is the new Executive Chef at\u00a0<\/strong>Reuben’s<\/strong> at The Robertson Small Hotel, after the departure of Emile Fortuin<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Alex von Ulmenstein is the new Restaurant Manager at\u00a0<\/strong>Indochine,<\/strong> at Delaire Graff Estate. \u00a0Raymond Brown has left Reuben’s Franschhoek, and is the new Maitre’D at Indochine.<\/p>\n
