\"\"<\/a>A fantastic last half of April weather-wise has been a ‘second wind’ for Cape Town’s restaurants, delaying the closure of restaurants which will be inevitable in the long winter lying ahead. \u00a0Already April has seen six restaurant closures. \u00a0This list of restaurant openings and closings is \u00a0updated continuously<\/span>,<\/strong> as we receive new information:<\/p>\n

Restaurant Openings<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Fr\u00e8res Bistro<\/strong> has opened next door to Col’Cacchio on Hans Strydom Avenue in the city centre.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Orphanage Cocktail Emporium<\/strong> is opening\u00a0Orphanage Club<\/strong> upstairs, with 1920\u2019s style music by live performers, later this year.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Cavalli<\/strong> <\/strong>restaurant is said to open on the stud farm on R44, between Stellenbosch and Somerset West, this year or next<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Shake your Honey Mumbai <\/strong>is to open in the original Madame Zingara<\/strong> building on Loop Street, in August.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Nic van Wyk, previously with Terroir, has opened <\/strong>The Eatery at<\/strong> <\/strong>Diemersdal <\/strong>in Durbanville.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Burger King<\/strong> has opened its first South African branch in Cape Town.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0A coffee shop, chocolaterie, bar, and fashion boutique will open in a 3-storey building on Long Street, as yet unnamed.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Wilderer Distillery<\/strong> and\u00a0<\/strong>La Grapperia<\/strong> at Spice Route restaurant have opened at Spice Route wine estate, in addition to their existing location<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0Deluxe <\/strong>U<\/strong>rban Caf\u00e9 <\/strong>has opened in the old Cape Quarter.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 A new restaurant and micro brewery is to open next door to The Bromwell in Woodstock (name not yet known).<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Le Venue<\/strong> has opened at The House of JC le Roux<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The\u00a0Harbour House<\/strong> group is opening a new restaurant at 107 Loop Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Goloso Pizzeria<\/strong> <\/strong>has opened in Regent Road Sea Point.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0De Dorf Krug<\/strong> has opened in Hermanus as a Bavarian\/Austrian restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>La Parada<\/strong> has opened in Kalk Bay.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 <\/strong><\/strong>The Crypt at St George’s Cathedral<\/a><\/strong> has opened as a jazz restaurant.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Cheyne’s<\/a><\/strong> has opened in Hout Bay.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Chef Reuben Riffel<\/strong> is to open an artisanal beer bar.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Re:Public<\/strong> has opened in Hout Bay.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Lounge on Main<\/strong> is to open in the Cape Royale Luxury Hotel in Green Point<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Nuri Sushi Factory<\/strong> has opened on Parliament Street.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Sinns on Long Street<\/strong> has opened.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Slaley Bistro<\/strong> has opened on Slaley wine estate in Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 BBQ<\/strong> is opening within Simon’s at Groot Constantia on 25 May, only open on Friday and Saturday evenings, with braai and live music.<\/p>\n

Restaurant Closures<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Caf\u00e9 Le Chocolatier<\/strong> has closed down in Franschhoek. \u00a0The owner Daniel Waldis has taken over Apprentice<\/strong> in Stellenbosch.<\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Pepperclub on the Beach<\/strong> has closed down in Camps Bay, to make way for a luxury boutique hotel.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Eastern Palace<\/strong> has closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0The <\/strong>Urban Garden<\/strong> has closed down<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 <\/strong>The Reserve<\/strong> nightclub and Brasserie<\/strong> have closed down.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>St Yves Beach Club<\/strong> in Camps Bay is closing down on 4 May, to make way for the new Boutique Hotel in The Promenade.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Bar1<\/strong> in Camps Bay, which was planned as a summer ‘pop-up’ bar and restaurant, has closed down.<\/p>\n

* Caf\u00e9 Benedict<\/strong> has closed down in Franschhoek.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Sofia’s at Morgenster<\/strong> in Somerset West has closed down.<\/p>\n

Restaurant staff\/venue changes<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

* <\/strong>De Oude Bank Bakkerij<\/strong> is expanding, and will open a retail section selling charcuterie, fresh meats, home-made ice cream, and wines, collectively called De Companje.<\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Taste Restaurant<\/strong> has moved to Bilton Wines<\/p>\n

* Chef Reuben Riffel and his colleague Maritz Jacobs have been contracted to design the menus and prepare the food for weddings and events at All\u00e9e Bleue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

* Isabella Immenkamp, the excellent service-orientated hostess at Burrata, has moved to Jordan Restaurant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

* Bukhara<\/strong> is said to be opening in the V&A Waterfront, where Passage to India was<\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Jewel of India<\/strong> has opened upstairs in the ex Wale Rose Lifestyle building in Bo-Kaap.<\/p>\n

* Josephine\u2019s Cookhouse<\/strong> has closed down in Newlands (ex Caveau), and <\/strong>Toad & Josphine<\/strong> has opened in its space.<\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Awestruck<\/strong> has opened in the ex-Caveau space on Bree Street.<\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Sinn\u2019s Ice Cream Emporium<\/strong> has re-opened in the Camps Bay Promenade, with a reduced space, and much cleaner interior and new furniture.<\/p>\n

* Wild Peacock Emporium<\/strong> has named its restaurant The Larder<\/strong> for dinners.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0Dane Blignaut has taken over as the Manager of <\/strong>Haute Cabriere Restaurant<\/strong> from Lasse Presting.<\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Bayside Caf\u00e9<\/strong> has closed down in Camps Bay after 24\u00bd years, and has moved to Portico Building, corner Marine Drive and Athens Road, Blouberg.<\/p>\n

* <\/strong> Flatteur Caf\u00e9<\/a><\/strong> has opened where Gesellig was, on the corner of Regent Road and Church Street in Sea Point.<\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Sage Restaurant<\/a><\/span><\/strong> has moved to Chabivin Champagne and MCC House on the Blaauwklippen Road.<\/p>\n

* <\/strong>Massimo\u2019s<\/strong> in Hout Bay is changing its name to <\/strong>Amici di Massimo\u2019s<\/strong> for 10 – 12 months, to be run by Johan, while Massimo undergoes medical treatment in Italy. It will revert back to Massimo\u2019s when they return.<\/p>\n

* El Burro<\/strong> is expanding, by taking a section of the ex-Rhapsody space for a bar, whilst retaining its current location.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 French Toast Wine & Tapas Bar is re-opening on 17 May as\u00a0Odyssey, <\/strong>now run by Blues’ owners.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Wakame<\/strong> is not moving into the Salt Restaurant space at the Ambassador Hotel on 1 July, as originally confirmed by their staff and the hotel. \u00a0A sister restaurant from Johannesburg, called Koi Restaurant,<\/strong> will be opening at the Ambassador Hotel.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Sensei Deon de Jongh has moved from Okamai at Glenwood to Funiki Japanese Eatery<\/strong> at\u00a0L’ermitage<\/strong> in Franschhoek.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 James Penlington is the new owner of The Stall<\/strong> in Franschhoek, managed by Mark Fourie.<\/p>\n

Restaurant winter breaks<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

* Waterkloof<\/strong> is closed on Mondays from April – September. \u00a0Closed from 13 May – 11 June.<\/p>\n

* The Kitchen<\/strong> at Maison in Franschhoek will be closed in June and July.<\/p>\n

* L\u2019ermitage Restaurant,<\/strong> Franschhoek: closed for dinner from 1 April – end winter<\/p>\n

* Tokara Restaurant<\/strong>: closed from 20 – 30 May.<\/p>\n

* Makaron<\/strong> will be closed on Wednesdays in winter, and for all of June.<\/p>\n

* Overture<\/strong> will be closed in June.<\/p>\n

* The Bascule Bar<\/strong> at the Cape Grace has closed until 16 May for renovations.<\/p>\n

* Oasis Bistro <\/strong>at The Mount Nelson will be closed from May – end September.<\/p>\n

* Dornier Bodega Restaurant<\/strong>: closed for dinner in winter, but open for lunch and tapas daily.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Aubergine<\/strong> is closed for lunch from May – August.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Spice Route<\/strong> restaurant is closed on Tuesdays until end August.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Bistro Sixteen82 <\/strong>is closed from 1 – 24 July.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Grande Provence <\/strong>is closed from 15 July – 5 August.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Pierneef \u00e0 La Motte <\/strong>is closed from 17 June – 12 July.<\/p>\n
