\"Kokkedoor<\/a>The Sweet Service Award<\/strong> goes to the Kokkedoor team of Errieda du Toit, who conceptualised and publicised the Afrikaans cooking reality TV show, flighted on KykNET, the production company Home Brew Film Company, the presenter Marietta Kruger, the judges Chef Nic van Wyk of Diemersdal Farm Eatery<\/span><\/strong><\/a> and Hetta van Deventer-Terblanche who consults to La Motte<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and the twenty contestants, who gave up their home and business lives to participate in the show, at sometimes unbearable temperatures of up to 45\u00b0C in Prince Albert. \u00a0Being busy most Thursday evenings, I was unable to see most episodes, but did watch the final one last night. \u00a0The production values were fantastic, especially the food shots at the start to the show, equalling or bettering the quality of the Woolworths TV commercials made for MasterChef SA. \u00a0Kokkedoor\u00a0has made our country’s ‘erfeniskos’<\/em> (heritage food) and cooking\u00a0‘sexy’\u00a0<\/em>again, as columnist Martie Retief-Meiring wrote in Die Burger<\/strong> yesterday. \u00a0Congratulations to Mynhardt Joubert and Tiaan Langenegger, who are the Kokkedoor 2013 winning team, winning R250000 and a cookbook contract.\u00a0A shame was seeing so many English TV commercials in such a Proudly Afrikaans show!<\/p>\n

\"blakes-bar-lounge_2_image_large\"<\/a>The Sour Service Award<\/strong> goes to Blakes (with ‘sister establishments Caf\u00e9 Felix, Old Oak Manor (both in Riebeek Kasteel), and Poplars), and is nominated by Nouvelle Mushrooms: ‘We, Nouvelle Mushrooms, would like to nominate <\/span>Blakes Bar and Restaurant<\/strong> at 189 Buitengracht street Cape Town, part of the Mantella Group, for the <\/span>Sour Award<\/span><\/strong>. <\/span>We have been supplying Blakes with our exotic mushrooms since November 2012. \u00a0Grant, the Restaurant Manager of Blakes, contacted us in October 2012 with regards to supplying them with exotic mushrooms, wishing to open an account with Nouvelle Mushrooms. Blakes ordered on a weekly basis from us. We never failed to deliver their orders timeously. March 2013 Blakes stopped paying their outstanding invoices, yet continued to order stock from us. Although we did not wish to continue supplying them before outstanding debt was settled, Malcolm Bushell<\/strong> of Blakes promised to make immediate payment. In good faith we continued to deliver orders. After numerous phone calls and emails from Nouvelle to Malcolm, we were advised in June 2013 by Malcolm that Blakes had closed down, offering to settle the outstanding R4700 by only paying R3000 as Full & Final Settlement (due to foreclosure), which we accepted. After some investigating, we discovered Blakes has not closed its doors, but is only closed for renovations and will be opening for business again on 4 July 2013. Surely if the restaurant has funds for renovation work, it can pay its suppliers\u2026? Events have left a sour taste in our mouth and we most certainly will not be supplying any concern owned by the Mantella Group again. We also urge other suppliers to be weary of this business group and not fall into the same trap we did<\/em>‘.<\/p>\n
