* \u00a0 The vine growing regions in South Africa, Bordeaux, and South Australia could be affected negatively by climate change in future, due to droughts, while the Rhine region of Germany, New Zealand, the USA states of Oregon and Washington, and Mendoza are likely to benefit from climate change, writes\u00a0Antonio Busalacchi<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, wine expert and climate scientist.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Eat Out<\/strong>\u00a0Restaurant Awards will take place at The Lookout in the V&A Waterfront on 10 November, much earlier than usual. \u00a0Awards to be presented are<\/p>\n

The judging panel includes a ‘panel of four highly esteemed South African-based judges. These judges will remain anonymous throughout the judging process and will only be revealed on the night of the awards<\/em>‘, Eat Out<\/strong> said in its newsletter yesterday! \u00a0Tickets are on sale for R1450 per person.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction offers 59 ‘singularly crafted<\/em>‘ wines \u2013 the biggest selection ever \u2013 at Spier on 5 October. \u00a0Small volumes of unique wines, made exclusively for the auction, will be for sale, this year having the biggest white wine selection and 667 more cases on offer than last year. \u00a0Bartho Eksteen is making his first Auction appearance with Hermanuspietersfontein Vloekskoot Sauvignon Blanc 2012, one of three Sauvignon Blancs in the auction. \u00a0Other newcomers include AA Badenhorst Family Wines Grenache Gris Vuilgoed 3 2012 from Adi Badenhorst and Johan Malan\u2019s Simonsig \u201cThe Russety One\u201d Roussanne 2012. An Auction showcase will be held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre on 22 August, and at The Atrium at Nedbank in Sandton on 29 August. * \u00a0\u00a0The Western Cape Liquor Authority is launching a province-wide awareness campaign to promote responsible drinking, and\u00a0educating residents about the dangers of alcohol abuse in terms of the ‘social and physical ills it promotes such as crime, injury and illness. \u00a0Thys Giliomee, CEO of the Authority, said the Liquor Authority was determined to play a proactive role in ending liquor abuse so as to ensure that our communities become safer and healthie<\/em>r’. \u00a0Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Finance Alan Winde said: ‘South Africa has been ranked as the country with the third highest rate of alcohol abuse in the world and the Western Cape plays a big part in this. Despite the efforts of government to end liquor abuse, the problem is not going away. That is why we are rolling out a full scale campaign targeted at spreading our message to households across the province. It is my firm hope that informed members of our communities spread our message, and that they join hands with us to end this scourge<\/em>.’ \u00a0The awareness sessions start in Malmesbury on 6\u00a0August and end in Mossel Bay on 30\u00a0August.
