* \u00a0 The MyCiTi Bus is to start rolling in the City Bowl, Sea Point, Century City, Duinefontein, and Melkbos on 2 November Brett Herron, the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, \u00a0has announced via Twitter. \u00a0The start date for Camps Bay is 30 November, more than a year behind schedule.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The petrol attendant strike<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>commences today, originally forecast for last week.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 SA Breweries has launched an advertising campaign, in the form of a self-produced advertorial, in the Sunday Times Food Weekly,\u00a0<\/strong>encouraging beer to be paired with food as the beer’s flavour released in the malting process is similar to that in cooked food, it claims in rather technical terminology! \u00a0 Food and beer pairing tips are provided, with a poor photograph showing an unappetizing looking dish with a small part of a Castle Milk Stout label: \u00a0flavours must be compatible, strengths must match, ale can pair with what red wine pairs with and lager with white wine pairings, and the greater the bitterness and the higher alcohol content, the heavier the dish should be.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Excellent feedback was received from German wine writer Mario Scheuermann about the quality of the S<\/strong><\/span>u<\/span>edafrika Weinshow<\/strong><\/span><\/a>\u00a0which was held in the SA Embassy in Berlin this weekend!<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The SAA turnaround strategy<\/strong><\/span><\/a> will be presented to parliament this week, by its new CEO Monwabisi Kalawe, once a Director of the Board of Cape Town Tourism and MD of Cape Town International. \u00a0The airline is expected to make a loss for the year to 31 March, following the 2012 loss of \u00a0R1.25 billion. \u00a0SAA is surviving on a R5 billion guarantee from the Treasury, and is battling high fuel costs, a weak Rand, and strong competition from other carriers. Mr Kalawe will be focusing on cost cutting throughout the company.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 ‘Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom<\/strong><\/span><\/a><\/em>‘ will be screened internationally from November, and could benefit tourism to South Africa. \u00a0The movie has just premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 An innovative Eco Atlas Ethical Directory has been compiled, to guide consumers in eating out, sleeping out, and in buying products ethically. \u00a0An ECO CHOICES icon next to each entry will reflect the establishment’s\u00a0recycling policy, sustainable fish policy, and their empowerment of staff. \u00a0 It will also guide consumers in sourcing locally produced and earth-friendly products. \u00a0(via media release from Catalyst Communications)<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Hein Koegelenberg<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, MD of both La Motte and Leopard’s Leap, and also Chairman of Perfect Wines of South Africa, must be one of the smartest businesspersons in our country, having just brought 700 Perfect China salespersons as well as a group of VIPs visiting on an incentive trip. \u00a0‘This incentive trip aims to introduce the top performing sales people of Perfect China to the South African winelands which will enable them to do an even better job of selling South African wine. The venture also focuses on tourism from China to South Africa. This is only the first of a planned annual incentive visit of the same nature aiming to contribute to the local economy by turning the visitors into ambassadors of South African tourism<\/em>‘. \u00a0The visitors were welcomed at the Cape Town International Convention Centre by Western Cape Premier Helen Zille, by former President FW de Klerk via video feed, \u00a0the Deputy Minister of Tourism Tokozile Xasa, and were taken to taste the L’Huguenot wines made for Perfect China at Val de Vie which has just been bought by the company, and to visit Table Mountain, Aquila Nature Reserve, and other tourist attractions.<\/p>\n
