* \u00a0 Graham Beck Wines has been appointed as the official MCC supplier to Cape Town’s hosting of World Design Capital 2014.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Wine writer Sherwin Lao from the Philippines, writing the column ‘Sip by Sip<\/em>‘ for the Manila Standard Today<\/strong>, visited the Winelands of South Africa twice in 2013, and sings its praises<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, describing it as ‘a marvel to look at’<\/em>, having visited Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, and Elgin. \u00a0He also wrote about its ‘surreal mountain views, quaint looking towns and unparalled God-given beauty’. \u00a0 <\/em>He was one of 14 international judges for the 2013 Michelangelo Wine Awards.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Guardian<\/strong> writer John Brunton visited the Winelands as a guest of SA Tourism, and titled his article ‘South Africa’s Cape top 10 wine route<\/em>‘<\/strong><\/a>, recommending Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, the Swartland, Tulbagh, and Wellington generally, and Chamonix, Glenwood, Nabygelegen, AA Badenhorst, and Tokara specifically. \u00a0He also recommended restaurants Franschhoek Kitchen at Holden Manz (before they lost their Chef Maryna Frederiksen, whom he mentions) , Fyndraai at Solms-Delta, and Readers in Tulbagh.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The growing\u00a0popularity of craft beers in South Africa<\/strong><\/span><\/a> is highlighted by Voice of America.<\/strong>\u00a0The popularity of the artisanal beers is due to them being perceived as ‘cool’<\/em>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 South Africa-inspired Houston restaurant Peli Peli has made the American Open Tables top 100 Diners’ Choice list<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, serving mainly American fare, but 20% of its menu contains South African dishes created by former South African owner and chef Paul Friedman.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 To tie in with the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate on Saturday, Orphanage Cocktail Emporium is encouraging patrons to dress in the horse race colours of blue and white, and to join their ‘exquisite equine extravaganza<\/em>‘ on Saturday evening.
