* \u00a0 Lifeguard duty at most Cape Town beaches<\/strong><\/span><\/a> will be curtailed to weekends only now that schools have re-opened. \u00a0The lifeguard services will continue to be offered daily at the city’s Blue Flag beaches (including Camps Bay), from 10h00 – 18h00, until 31 March.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 UK singer Cheryl Cole<\/strong><\/span><\/a> is said to be looking to buy a holiday home in Cape Town, and in Camps Bay specifically.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 SAA has been given a 4-star rating of its service<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for the 12th year running by independent airline evaluation agency Skytrax. \u00a0 More than 800 aspects of service are evaluated. SAA is the only African airline to achieve the 4-star rating.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Collecting shells on the beach<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>whilst on holiday may be harmful to the environment, including to some animal and plant life.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Winnipeg Free Press<\/strong> wine writer Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson vows in his New Year’s resolution to try more South African wines<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, having found the whites too ‘herbal<\/em>‘ and the reds too ‘tarry and smoky<\/em>‘ in the past, explaining that his perception may be based on the quality (or lack of) South African wines available in Canada. He does write that this is improving.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 South African Tourism is marketing our country with fruit<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the pay-off line now being a bizarre ‘Beautiful country, beautiful Fruit’<\/em>! \u00a0Young children hold a fruit with a panoramic view of an icon, e.g. Table Mountain. \u00a0Cape Town has two fruits linked to it, a plum and an apple.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 SA Tourism is running an international chef competition with Le Quartier Fran\u00e7ais in Franschhoek<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, misleadingly calling it ‘the culinary heartland<\/em>‘ of our country, and mistakenly naming their restaurant ‘The Tasting Rooms’<\/em> (sic). \u00a0 The winning student spends one week in the kitchen of Chef Margot Janse.<\/p>\n
