* \u00a0 Cape Town just cannot stay out of the New York Times<\/strong>! \u00a0Travel writer Sarah Khan has profiled some of the city’s hottest coffee and quirky shops<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, linking the city to World Design Capital 2014. \u00a0In the print edition on Sunday, the article headline ‘Have some Dim Sum with your shirts’<\/em> introduces the article with the story about the success of I\u00a0\u2665<\/span> My Laundry, which recently opened a second branch in the city centre. \u00a0 Other hot spots that are featured in the article are Loading Bay, Latitude 33, Haas, Pedersen & Lennard, House of Machines, and Los Muertos Motorcycles.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Standard Bank’s economist Goolan Ballim says that South Africa’s economy has underperformed<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>ever since the global meltdown, which commenced in 2008. \u00a0 \u00a0He only sees a recovery in 2016 or 2017.<\/p>\n

South Africa features near the bottom of the list, at 4%. \u00a0 A half of the UK travellers have relatives overseas, in Australia, the USA, Canada, New Zealand, and Spain, being the reason for travel in many instances.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Oslo is the world’s most expensive tourist destination<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, measured on the basis of the cost of accommodation in a 4 star hotel, dinner and a 3,2 km taxi trip. \u00a0Sofia in Bulgaria, Hanoi in Vietnam, and Warsaw in Poland are the three most economical tourist destinations.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Cape Wine Academy is running a number of different wine courses, starting with the level 1 wine course on Saturday. \u00a0A number of venues have been selected in Cape Town and Stellenbosch for the courses in the next two months. \u00a0The ‘Wines of the World’<\/em>\u00a0course runs over six weeks from 4 February onwards, and covers France, Australia, and South And North America. \u00a0A ‘Front of House’<\/em>\u00a0course runs for two full days on 4 and 5 April, while one can also attend a ‘Wine and Food’<\/em>\u00a0course, and a Brandy course.
