* \u00a0 Beer brewing tours<\/strong><\/span><\/a> are gaining interest, reports Southern African Tourism Update<\/strong>, focusing on craft beers as well as traditional beers. \u00a0 Beer festivals have helped create awareness for the roughly 80 micro-breweries in our country. \u00a0Tours use stories to get the cultural and brewing message across. \u00a0American, German, and Belgian tourists are keen beer tourists.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Air traffic across Europe could be shut dow<\/strong><\/span><\/a>n tomorrow, if the planned air traffic controller strike in 28 countries goes ahead. \u00a0Lufthansa staff have withdrawn from the strike.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0Mamphela Ramphele has accepted the DA’s offer to stand in the forthcoming elections as the Democratic Alliance (DA) Presidential candidate<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, her Agang SA party appearing to be disbanded. (via Facebook)<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Cape Town may be the flavour of the year media coverage wise, but did not make the Top 100 City Destinations list<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>in 2011<\/strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0in terms of arrivals, published by Euromonitor International. \u00a0Johannesburg is ranked 60th. Nairobi is the only other African country on the list, at number 80. \u00a0Most visited cities are Hong Kong, Singapore, London, Kuala Lumpur, Macau, Bangkok, Antalya (in Turkey), Shenzhen, New York, and Istanbul.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Spur Corporation grew sales by 11%<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, its Panarottis Pizza Pasta franchise doing particularly well with \u00a0a 26% growth. \u00a0The fish chain John Dory’s showed a decline in sales. International revenue increased by 16% compared to 11% local sales growth. \u00a0Spur Corporation CEO\u00a0Pierre van Tonder said: ‘The slower retail sales growth in the food and beverage sector in the second half of 2013 is a clear indication that consumers in our target market are feeling the impact of a depressed economy and increasing cost pressures, particularly in the lower end of the market’.<\/em><\/p>\n
