* \u00a0 A new (yellow) frame for Table Mountain has been erected at Bloubergstrand<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, to showcase Cape Town’s icon for tourists and locals wishing to get a perfect picture, and to tie in with Cape Town hosting the World Design Capital 2014.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 In what many see as surprise news, Facebook will buy WhatsApp for<\/strong><\/span><\/a> $19 billion. WhatsApp has 450 million users, growing by 1 million a day. \u00a0It is attractive to Facebook in reaching a younger audience and to improve its mobile communication reach.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Constantia Fresh Fine Wine and Food Festival<\/strong><\/span><\/a> will be held this weekend. \u00a0On Saturday 22\/2 wines from Constantia can be tasted as can be canap\u00e9s prepared by Chefs Brad Ball from Steenberg’s Bistro Sixteen82, Bertus Basson from Overture, Edgar Osojnik from Buitenverwachting, and Peter Tempelhoff \u00a0from The McGrath Collection, all available at Buitenverwachting, from 15h00 – 20h00. \u00a0The cost is R400 and tickets can be booked via Webtickets. Tomorrow a themed tasting will be held by J\u00f6rg Pf\u00fctzner, from 18h00 – 19h30, at R990 per person. \u00a0The Annual Constantia Fresh Dinner will be held tomorrow at Klein Constantia, and will be cooked by Chef Bertus Basson. Cost is R990.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Cape Winemakers Guild has put together an amazing auction lot for the AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction, which will be held at Delaire Graff on 15 March. \u00a0The lot includes accommodation at Spier, attendance at the Guild Auction on 4 October, attendance at the pre-Auction dinner, participation in a game of boules and the Guild Golf Day, lunch at Paul Cluver with its winemaker and Guild Chairman Andries Burger, a pre-Auction tasting, wines of the Guild winemakers who were part of the Guild Auctions in the past three years, and two British Airways Business Class tickets if the successful bid is received from outside the Western Cape! * \u00a0 Executive Chef Christo Pretorius and his team of Azure Restaurant at the Twelve Apostles Hotel will be offering their delectable dishes at the Pick ‘n Pay Taste of Cape Town, to be held at the Green Point Cricket Club from 3 – 6 April. \u00a0Signature dishes offered in tasting size portions are\u00a0Duck Terrine – liver parfait, pickled onion, port gel, pistachio crumble and fig puree; Char Sui Pork – mirin glaze belly, pork popcorn, braised shoulder bitterballen, smoked potato pea puree, plum chutney and cider jus; and owner\u00a0Bea Tollman\u2019s Rice pudding with salted caramel and toasted nuts. * \u00a0 It’s International Tourist Guide Day tomorrow, and the Western Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism, headed by Minister Alan Winde, will be co-hosting a presentation about Cape Town hosting World Design Capital 2014 at the Cape Town Station. Minister Winde said about the 3000 registered tour guides: ‘Tourist guides are the \u2018front of house\u2019 team for tourism Western Cape. Through our tourist guides, visitors gain in-depth knowledge about our scenic and cultural attractions and have a richer experience during their stay in our destination. A registered tourist guide can tell you in a heartbeat how many types of fynbos the Western Cape has, or how high Table Mountain is. I wonder how many locals could answer those questions? I would like to encourage international tourists and locals alike to spend a day with one of our tourist guides to learn more about our beautiful province<\/em>‘.
