* \u00a0 The price of petrol increases<\/strong><\/span><\/a> by 36 cents a litre at midnight on 5 March.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Amarula brand, Distell is launching a new spirit Amarula Gold<\/a><\/strong><\/span>\u00a0this month. The new 30% spirit is described as ‘aromatic and vibrantly fruity with intriguingly spicy notes and a very smooth texture’.<\/em><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Tourism Minister Marthinus van Schalkwyk is attending the second World Tourism Forum Lucerne Think Tank<\/strong><\/span><\/a> in Switzerland this weekend. \u00a0This year the focus is on ‘Infrastructure and Investment’<\/em>, with attention on financing tourism and travel infrastructure.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The Franschhoek Literary Festival will be held between 16 and 18 May<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and 170 authors will speak on various topics. \u00a0Speakers include poets Adam Small and Breyten Breytenbach; heavy-weight writers Damon Galgut and Mark Gevisser; and controversial writers Andre Brink, Max du Preez, and Tim Noakes. \u00a0Archbishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter Mpho, as well as former FNB MD and now Mxit Chairman Michael Jordaan will also participate in the pregramme.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

* \u00a0 The 4000 strong penguin colony at Betty’s Bay is under threat from a diesel spill after a trawler ran aground 5 km from the Stony Point Penguin Colony. \u00a0The penguin colony is closed to visitors currently<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, so that the impact on the penguins can be observed.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 ‘Rapid Eye Movement’<\/em> is the theme of Richard Smith’s exhibition which opens at Ebony gallery on Loop Street on 6 March. (received via e-mail from Berniece Friedmann)<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Val du Charron has launched a new Theatre of Dreams wine range and is celebrating with three theatre shows in its cellar on 1, 2, and 3 May. \u00a0The shows will serve ‘carnival cuisine’<\/em>, and attendees will be entertained with live music, dancing, and theatre. \u00a0Tickets cost R250.
