* \u00a0 The Reliance organic compost company has generated 10 million cubic meters of garden refuse from landfill, working with the City of Cape Town, a first for the Western Cape \u00a0relative to all other provinces. \u00a0The company shreds green garden refuse from the City’s drop-off facilities and landfills, and has put 750000 tons of organic compost back into the soils of the province since it began operating 13 years ago. \u00a0‘As one of only a few South African carbon neutral businesses, Reliance has had its composting technology approved as a Greenhouse Gas Emission Reduction method according to the guidelines of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It is internationally recognized for its contribution to the green economy and is the only South African composting company to be registered with the United Nations<\/em>‘. \u00a0Since it began operating, Reliance has prevented more than 500000 tons of CO\u00b2\u00a0gas escaping into the atmosphere, thereby helping to prevent climate change. \u00a0The company is a member of\u00a0the\u00a0110% Green Flagship<\/a>\u00a0project, an initiative of the Western Cape government, calling on companies to commit to the Green Economy.
