We are so proud to be Capetonian<\/em>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedrinksbusiness.com\/2014\/06\/south-africa-tames-wild-horse-pinotage\/?article-source=newsletter&amp;source=890&amp;date=2014-06-04\"><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> The image of Pinotage is improving<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, as its association with &#8216;<em>burnt rubber&#8217;<\/em> and bitterness is being addressed by the <!--more-->wine industry, said Gavin Patterson of Sumaridge Wines, at a masterclass in London. \u00a0He said that the cultivar is &#8216;<em>the\u00a0least suited variety to over-extraction, working the cap hard and over-ripe grapes. \u00a0Pinotage can be like a wild horse; you have to rein it in to get quality from it&#8217;. \u00a0<\/em>The problems appear to have been caused by older vines with leaf roll virus. \u00a0After a lot of Pinotage vines were pulled out in the past 10 years, slowly more is being planted again, in more <em>&#8216;measured, site-specific plantings<\/em>&#8216;. \u00a0Fewer wines are matured in American oak as Pinotage is increasingly made in a drier style. \u00a0Patterson expressed his delight that the Pinotage Association supports the Cape blend, which contains at least 30% Pinotage, having \u00a0a unique South African style.<\/p>\n<div id=\"post-245272\">\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">* \u00a0 Cape Town steakhouses\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">HQ and Theo&#8217;s have made it onto the Top 5 finalists for The Wolftrap Steakhouse Championships, based on public voting, which saw a Top 20 list voted for out of 140 entries received. \u00a0The other finalists are The Local Grill in Parktown North, Fahrenheit in Edenvale, and The Godfather in Centurion. \u00a0The Top 5 steakhouses will be evaluated by food experts and chefs, before the 2014 winner is announced.
