England&#8217;s early World Cup exit and better weather in July 2013 have been the cause of the beverage sales decrease.<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0 A <strong>Wine Intelligence<\/strong> study finds that UK wine drinkers almost equally accept cork and screw cap closures, at 40% each; \u00a0Australians prefer screw cap wines (55%) to cork (38%); and in the USA cork is strongly preferred (64%) compared to screw caps (21%). \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thedrinksbusiness.com\/2014\/07\/screw-caps-and-cork-favoured-equally-in-uk\/?article-source=newsletter&amp;source=920&amp;date=2014-07-11\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>choice of closure is dictated by image and practicality<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, more than <em>&#8216;scientific&#8217;<\/em> reasons of helping the wine to breathe, stifling ageing, or preventing spoilage.<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0 A new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.travelbuyer.co.za\/NewsDetails.aspx?newsId=73302&amp;publicationId=3&amp;uid=E3BD6D41-F1C4-41F1-B0D4-C1DC3D383092\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>MasterCard Multi-currency Cash Passport<\/strong><\/span><\/a> has been launched, and is available at ABSA and American Express <!--more-->Foreign Exchange branches. \u00a0The travel card has a pre-paid chip and is pin-protected. \u00a0It can be loaded with US $, UK\u00a0\u00a3,\u00a0\u20acuro, and Australian dollars. \u00a0Specific currency amounts loaded onto the card prevents further currency conversion costs. \u00a0Security features are built into the card, and back-up service is available 24\/7. <span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0 Villiera has launched Jasmine 2014, made from Muscat (43%), Riesling (33%), and Gew\u00fcrztraminer (24%), a light floral and spicy easy drinking wine. \u00a0(received via media release from Grapevine Publicity)<\/p>\n<p>* \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.enca.com\/banting-movement-gains-momentum-sa\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong> Banting is the new buzzword,<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and restaurants are starting to offer their customers low\/no carbohydrates, replacing bread with gluten-free bread, and potatoes, rice, and pasta with substitutes, such as using cauliflower for mash. \u00a065 on Main in Green Point is only offering its customers a Banting menu, and has customers driving through from towns such as Worcester to get their Banting fix. \u00a0Owner Whitney Wentzel only uses recipes developed by Professor Tim Noakes.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">* \u00a0 Stellenbosch Hills has welcomed new grape supplier Werda Farm, which is headed by Erik Phinallephe as managing partner, after starting as a farm worker 18 years ago. \u00a0Werda Farm is the 16th member of Stellenbosch Hills, a cellar which is 69 years old and which processes 9000 tons of grapes a year, to produce its quality wines. \u00a0Werda Farm has leased its land from the Stellenbosch Municipality, and is a partnership between Erik and Paul Andrag, chairman of Stellenbosch Hills. \u00a0Most of the vines on the farm were planted by Erik. \u00a0To supply Stellenbosch Hills, strict supply and quality criteria must be met. \u00a0New members are appointed if they buy or lease the land of an existing Stellebosch Hills supplier, and meet their requirements. \u00a0Stellenbosch Hills was previously called Vlottenburg Co-operative, and changed its name in 2003.
