* \u00a0Travelers have barely heard of ‘sharing’<\/em> services<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>such as Uber and Airbnb, and they are not yet a threat to established accommodation and taxi services, a Travel Weekly<\/strong> Consumer Trends survey has found. \u00a0More than two-thirds of the respondents had not heard of the services, and only 8% had used them. \u00a0The target age group of sharing services appears to be the 18 – 23 year olds, highest users of these services.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Western Cape Minister of Tourism Alan Winde has announced the new members of the Board of the tourism, investment, and trade agency Wesgro: \u00a0 Professor Brian Figaji (previously of Pentech) is the new Chairman, while other Board members are Paul Bannister (with an advertising and tourism marketing background), Ian Bartes (a senior manager of ACSA), Andrea B\u00f6hmert (manager of growth equity company Knife Capital), Economics Professor Haroon Bhorat (UCT), David Green (CEO of the V&A Waterfront), Anthony Hurst (Added-Asset & Associates), Bulelwa Makalima-Ngewana (CEO of the Cape Town Partnership), Michael Spicer, Chris Whelan (CEO Accelerate Cape Town), Councillor Francois Schippers, and Councillor Wessie van der Westhuizen. * \u00a0 The UK government wants to launch a healthy drinking ‘one day on, one day off’<\/em> regime<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, to prevent future liver and cancer problems.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0Eat Out<\/strong> Top 10 Chef Margot Janse of The Tasting Room will join Michelin star Chef Alyn Williams at The Westbury in London<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, in preparing a dinner on 9 September, at\u00a0\u00a3200, as part of a series of three dinners entitled CHEFSTOCK, each night having a different top chef cooking with Chef Alyn.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>* \u00a0 A good sign of the state of tourism in Germany is that Frankfurt Airport handled close to 5,9 million passengers in July, the highest number in its history<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

* \u00a0 Nederburg will be putting up 12 bottles of its 1975 Cabernet Sauvignon at its Nederburg Auction next month, made by former winemaker G\u00fcnter Br\u00f6zel. The bottles are as old as the Nederburg Auction, the proceeds of which go to the Breytenbach Centre in Wellington and Hope Through Action.
